That he (they) bought a(nother) Ferrari. I'm keeping a Mondial in the garage for a neighbor who bought it without telling his SO. He had promised to sell the p-bug first, but the Mondi was just too nice to pass up. He swears he's gonnna tell her soon. It's taking the place of a 348C that usually sits in that spot in my garage. I'm in partners with a guy on that one (the C). He still hasn't told his wife either. BTW, took him a few years to sell the 997 he promised to sell before getting his latest street Ferrari. To add to all this, my (our) 348C is temporarily stored in Mondial guy's garage while the Mondi hides out in mine. Is this all too wierd? A trend? All true! Who has or has had cars they kept secret?
Very standard. Told my wife the 355 was a loaner. Got caught as will your friend. Better to take the medicine early. Art
Not really weird. Seems like a lot of work to go to to hide the car though. Wouldn't it be easier to just find one where that isn't necessary?
when I bought the 456, I gleefully told her [shocked and surprised look] that "Honey, we get to fly to La Jolla, pick it up, drive back and have lotsa lotsa fun"...it actually went over well. May I suggest to your 'friend' [] the Kobi approach if all else fails.
Do their wives atleast let them see their balls sometimes, or are the permanently locked away somewhere?
I thought there might have been a Mondial hanging around the neighborhood Very funny he's keeping the race car in his garage.
Hid cars from the wife several times. Had to break down last week and tell her I bought another Porsche 356 (third one in the past year) several months ago that I was keeping at another guy’s house. This one is a non-runner that has some parts that came from the 1963 Super 90 I am restoring. I finally had to bring it home. She makes up for it by spending an equal amount of money on herself. The car in my avatar is a beat up 1965 Porsche 356 that I found locally several months ago. Had to drag it home too. Has the full disk brake suspension and transmission. I still don't accept I have a problem.
Oh wow. I have certainly heard of guys doing this but never thought I would see a thread claiming it. What the heck? I am not a young man, but is this what young men do these days? Good lord who is going to take care of this country once guys like me are too old to do it?
I could never stay married to a woman that tries to limit my toys! I had toys way before a wife. Of course that is said assuming that she doesn't have a valid reason for not wanting a certain toy. I heard a story from my friend. He said taht he had a friend with a Camaro collection that he absolutely loved. Supposedly she got jealous of the cars and made him sell them. When I heard that I freaked out and said..."he can't keep a wife like that". Surprise, surprise, they wound up divorced> Now the idiot has no wife, AND no cars!!
I assume he isn't extravagantly wealthy, therefore the purchase of the Mondial represents a noticable chunk of his disposable income. Buying the car and then hiding it violates the trust in the marriage and makes him look sneaky. Probably should come clean and take his lumps at home, and drop the asking price of his Porsche to ensure it sells.
He bought a Mondial and is now hiding it from the wife/family? What is the point of buying a Mondial then?
C'mon, you guys are being a little harsh. The situation is humerous, yes, but certainly not deserving of judgment regarding the size of his cojones or condition of his morals. It's his money, his relationship, and every one is different, none perfect. I'm reminded of the guy who loudly shouts "No woman tells me what to do!" after looking around to make sure she wouldn't hear.
I heard a story of a motorcycle being kept at friends house down the street. The guy would drive to work, stop at friends house, and ride the motorcycle the rest of the way. This is a friend of a friend story, to bad I don't know how it turned out.
