How about re / re sleeves in a 308 GTS Quattrovalvole can it be done with out damaging the sleeves? I am considering this so I can heat the block down low behind the sleeves where the threads are on those long stepped head studs to remove them. I have never seen a block with such bad corrosion, the head studs are so coked up with the white death.

Thanks all for responding Dave from PPM

Just pop them out, no? From the bottom of the block, I used a block of wood and tapped them out with a hammer. How are your liners? Are they pitted or scored?

Typically if you want to prevent damage you will need a liner puller. It may even need to have the block warmed up, and even when warm it may be difficult. It all depends on the condition. If the cooling system service was such that you have that condition with the studs I suspect the removal of the liners will become another difficult project.

I have removed many very difficult studs and have not felt it an advantage to remove the liners to do so.

Brian are the sleeves wet or dry in this series engine? How hot would you heat the block? Also Brian what would be your procedure to remove the 3 damaged studs that I am having a problem with?

Thanks for you input Dave from PPM

The last time I did this, I machined a small plate that fits the back of the liner. Turned the block upside down, put the plate in, and use a large hammer to knock the liner out. But like Brian said, unless you have very good reasons to remove the liners, don't.

Send it to Lesco Automotive Machine in San Luis Obispo CA and let them do it. They are very familiar and well equipped to do the job.
