I have an early 1999 360 with no pre-cats or secondary air system. I am putting on an S-line X-pipe. I have been looking at new headers but realized that the ones that I have are probably the same as the Challenge headers.
Can you give me some advice on whether I should replace my headers (4,000 miles) or not? If I should, what brand do you recommend that doesn't start with an F?

    Many thanks!

I know. It feels like I don't need to change them. Sound difference?

I also have a '99.The pre-cats are the main reason people change them. I feel that if you have a euro or a '99 it would be a lateral move to replace the headers. The exhaust and cats will have a bigger impact on sound anyway. The S-lines are pretty brutal already.

What cats do you recommend? I want to avoid the CEL.

You will typically not get a CEL with any 200 cell cats, you will with test pipes...I personally have the Evoflow cats, among the cheaper brands ($1600), and they are "ok". Sound good and nice welds but wasn't 100% happy with the quality of the stainless steel. Apparently that issue has been fixed since I brought it to their attention, but I'm not even sure the company is around any more. Lots of opinions on this forum...

Using them as well.the driver side rear o2 bung is a little off where I had to reroute the wire a differ way. Not a bigge but if it was clocked more to the outside it would have been perfect

Keep what you have. Non precat headers with no air are the way to go. The sound on mine is perfect (only better with a cs muffler).

That was also one of my complaints I sent to them. It's not terrible but I hate the way it touches the frame

I also vote to keep the '99 header. I just found a set of new old stock 360 Challenge headers and am going that route. Would've went with '99 headers as they're pretty much the same but I could only find the LH manifold new. Based on youtube it seems the 4-2-1 collector has a higher pitched sound at high rpm. I also think the factory insulation+heat shield setup is superior and/or more durable than the aftermarket options.
