Here we are, 4 days into ownership and already shopping for mods. It's a sickness and I can't help myself. I'm sure some of you can relate.

The 430 I bought came with Hamann exhaust and truth be told I'm not overly in love with the sound. That's very important especially for a Ferrari, which to me has always produced the most incredible exhaust notes and part of the reason why I love Ferraris so much in the first place. I won't be able to live with anything but perfection and for reference, I went through about 6 different exhausts on my Ford Raptor before I was finally happy.

My question is... anyone here run Hamann exhaust with headers and if so, how did it change the sound? Any sound clips or videos? If not might just consider taking this one out and replacing the whole system.

My next question is what are the best headers? Sound is most important to me with power gains being second most important. I see a lot of recommendations for Capristo but what are some other options?

Do I need an ECU retune with headers?

Lastly. I know headers make a huge difference with noise levels and I would like to keep it somewhat tame in this department. Any folks running just headers & exhaust and does that keep it mellow in comparison to cats, etc?

Thanks in advance for helping me sort through this.

You should be able to see the ends where they fit onto the cats- if going away from oem, look at ones which have the insulation blankets as some dont and only single skin pipe. OEM has some insulation plus a metal over shield. The fuel tank is not far away. I have the Capristo manifolds which are well made but can take a while to fit, come with insulation blankets.
Check to see how the exhaust is supported, oem brackets or capristo brackets . Lots on here about this.

I went thru this a few months ago. I personally could not justify the cost and PITA installation issues with the Capristo headers. The next best choice then seemed to be the Fabspeed headers, but the AP headers seem to be exactly the same at lower cost. So I went with the APs and got a good price from Vivid racing.

My car came with a Tubi exhaust. It sounded fantastic! I installed AP headers to avoid the potential issues associated with the OEM manifolds and the car is VERY loud.
My tech tells me the best sound is a combination of aftermarket headers with the OEM exhaust.

That may be true! I added headers and S line exhaust. Initially I thought it sounded great, but the more I drive it....I keep thinking it's too loud. Maybe it's that ringing in my ears telling me that....

Having seen a u tube video of the s line, i cannot work out why anyone would fit one as its so loud- u would have the car impounded here.

Can you expand on this? I've read back through a lot of old posts and had just about made up my mind to go with Capristo. Although the price is much higher the craftsmanship, quality, sound, and 4-2-1 design seemed to justify that, in my mind anyways. I don't think I've seen anything about installation or other issues.

The 4 into 1 headers just slip into place. The 4-2-1 headers like Capristo require more components to be R&R'd to be installed. Value of the Capristo is subjective.

I agree with that. I have challenge headers (no pre-cats) with the rest OEM. I don't want it any louder. Cruising with valves closed is fine. When the valves open it's plenty loud enough. As a first step up, the headers are a good option. More sound and performance plus cures the pre-cat header issues. If you still want it louder I would go sports cats next.

Yeah I'm definitely just going headers at first. Just trying to decide which but leaning toward Capristo. Will see how they sound with the Hamann exhaust and if I'm not happy, trade for an OEM. Will keep stock cats.

Cameron, let me know if I can ever help with any questions you may have. Going with headers will definitely be the best way to start down the road of finding the perfect pitch! Congrats again on the pickup, gorgeous spec.

I was gonna wait till I have my header installed.
my Fabspeed header overall quality was good, but putting a flat edge on the flanges shows it wasn't straight. took it to a machine shop and had them shave it down.

then sent it to get it coated. will be installing it in couple of weeks.

so do check your header before installing them.

I ran Fabspeed headers, stock cats, and Fabspeed exit pipes with no valves. The sound was like a Ferrari should sound. It was loud but not obnoxious. Interior sound level was just right and did not interfere with normal conversation or the stereo at normal volume. Best mod I could have done in my opinion. The second best was getting rid of the wimpy horns for authentic air horns.

My car should be ready by tomorrow or Wednesday. I will post up some sound bytes and dyno charts. Cant wait. Fabspeed headers, S-Line and ECU tuning. I'll start another thread so it doesnt get lost.

This is the best set up that I have seen so far. I have fabspeed headers and s line. No more things need to be done. Car sounds perfect. A lot better than 488. 430 and 458 will be the last Pinin Farina designed and NA engine F cars from Ferrari. We need to get the best sound effect as well. It will be appreciated for a long time.

There were so many threads regarding headers and exhausts...

I have AP Headers and Sline. Sure, it's loud... just like a Ferrari should be.

Got my car back yesterday, it is loud. I don't care what anyone says, it is much louder but the sound is awesome. It will not be for everyone, if you are on the fence go hear someone's car live as the online videos don't do it justice.

Power wise there is very little there from the exhaust and headers, all the power came from the tune.

Sorry for my ignorance but never heard of Sline is that the manufacturer ? I just purchased an F430 spider with very low miles. Recall was done to replace brackets but still considering headers to be safe.

I have S line on my car along with AP headers, S line is made by TWO - a small fabricator in CO. So a search for S line on here and you tube. Plenty of videos and info, it's loud but makes the F430 sound like an F1 car.

I have topspeed headers installed on mine 1500 miles ago. They are excellent and sound excellent. I have had a lot of complements on the sound. They were about 1/3 the price of the competition.

For those that have fitted the Fabspeed/AP headers and Topspeed, have you noticed an increase in performance? I.E. Throttle response, urgency to rev in upper RPM band, etc?
Have the engine bay temps increased?

As I stated above the gains are minimal at least by the dyno. My gains were mostly from the tune by OE tuning which was optimized for the upgrades and 93 octane.
