Trying to figure out my header tank plumbing. Car is a 308 with a 355 drivetrain sitting in a 355 subframe There are 4 nipples on the 355 header tank. One from the block, one from the thermostat housing. I get those. Then there is another intended to hook to the heater circuit, and the last one intended to hook to the crossover radiator outlet pipe (which does not exist as the 308 has only one radiator). A 308 has two hookups. Most cars have only one, from the radiator cap. So I don't get why the 355 has lines going to the heater circuit and the radiator piping. Seems redundant?

The shop that put this car together blocked off all but two hookups (from the block and from the thermostat housing). Wondering if that is OK because they did a lot of other stuff that was Heath Robinson.

As a miss match of parts, you can make concessions. 308 cars have only two hoses on the tank and then two bleed screws. 355 has four hoses on the tank and no bleed screws. The three of the four hose connections should be used, one (the largest one) goes to the 355 water pump housing unit, the other (medium sized) is heater hose from the car. The other heater hose from the car goes on the front of the water pump housing unit on the 355. One bleed line (the smallest one) goes from the top of the water pump unit to the tank. The other can be capped as it comes from the radiator on the 355 but the 308 radiator has bleed screw. If you were industrious you could run a line from the 308 radiator bleed screw to the header tank but it is not needed if you just bleed the radiator after filling.
Sounds like a fun build, I really like doing things like that. Fortunately I have a couple clients that like crazy stuff and I sometimes get to let my imagination go and make cool stuff.

Could you post photos of this car? I’m really interested to see what the swap looks like! Good luck on your project, it sounds intense but really cool!

    Russ,

Keep the one 20mm line and the small 6mm line from the tank to the engine block. Block off the other two lines.

    Thanks Mitchell!

Will post some photos of engine bay when it's done. We still have to hook up the header tank, fix the wiring harness and hook up the ECU and exhaust valve actuator.
