Hope we get to see a real race this year. Just booked hotel rooms for the weekend before they get jacked up. Anyone else planning on it next year?
Cheap to EXPENSIVE. Depends on how you do it. Last year the three of us got general admission tickets ($60/weekend), split a $80/night hotel for 4 nights, and drove up splitting the gas. Wasn't too bad, maybe a couple hundred bucks. OR You could fly in, rent a Ferrari, stay at a 5 star hotel and get penthouse tickets. Bet that costs a bunch more. Ask Rob
Reasonably priced hotel rooms will soon be a thing of the past! I tried to change ours from the weekend of 25 June to this "official" date only to find the hotel was unavailable (along with many others). Got lucky and secured rooms at a location which was considerably higher than what we paid last year but this one is very convenient, close to the speedway and turns out to be less than we paid last year. July 2nd puts a monkey wrench into the proposed '06 F1 calendar - last word on Cancun was that it would not be ready in '06 which could have filled the "empty" date and Canada was projected for 18 June. As long as Bernie doesn't screw with Imola and Monaco I'll be happy (have hotels and airline tickets). Wonder what the criteria will be for the freebie tickets for the USGP? Carol
For those who don't know: The United States Grand Prix will take place Sunday, July 2, 2006 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the seventh consecutive year that the only round of the FIA Formula One World Championship in America will be run at the historic facility http://www.usgpindy.com/
That puts it the day after my daughter's 8th birthday.. So it may be out for me.. Unless.. The perfect birthday present.. I mean, she does have a MS poster on her wall. I'm sure she wouldn't mind me wearing my Renault gear.
The deal on tickets is as follows: if you bought a ticket last year your refund is in the mail---I got mine today! The deal for the the "free" tickets is as follows; If you renewed your tickets for this year then you will receive free tickets with your renewal, ie--you had two tickets on the front straight for $85.00 per ticket you will receive a check for the refund of last years tickets a renewal for this years ticket and two additional tickets (max price $85.00) at an undisclosed location. They may be next to you and they may be spread out. This is kind of a burn to us because our tickets are much more than $85.00. Do Not misunderstand me--I received the refund for my tickets at price A, so I get 2006 tickets at price A for free, but I get two tickets at price B at an undisclosed seating location and that does not do me much good. Anyone interested in some undisclosed location tickets? The minute I get them I will tell you where they are.
Haven't gotten our refund yet - I suspect that we'll only get two tickets even though we bought 6 tickets last year. We've always purchased the $85 tickets. I hope that with the freebie ones the 5 of us planning on going will be sitting together. It makes better sense to have given you two free tickets where you normally sit. What a mess. Carol
There you go again Carol.... Quit being logical! Actually thinking about the situation again.... If the freebies are for the same Indy race, not next years or something... If they gave you two tickets next to where you normally sit, those could be seats where someone else normally sits, which means displacing them. So, I can see where they would put the disclaimer that they may be elsewhere. Though it's kinda sh*tty.
Looked around on expedia and hotels.com yesterday, and saw a $400/nt room and not much else. Standard gouging I guess. Is Canadian GP any easier to book?
Phil, I was able to get a 2 bedroom suite from TownePlace Suites (Marriott chain) for $129/night yesterday. Go to Marriott.com and search directly on their site. Not 5 star, but it's a place to crash... http://marriott.com/towneplace/default.mi Just hope they don't try to cancel the reservation later Image Unavailable, Please Login
Booked 2 rooms at Townplace Suites Indianapolis Park 100 for $94 a night. Hope I can go, thanks for the heads up.
Great marketing gimic for them - as I said, it would make more sense to send you two tickets just like the one's you purchased last year - but if they did that then they might have less people in '06 - the way they are doing it guarantees them more attendance and makes them look better. At least the hotel I booked is only $67.99 per night and it's so very convenient to the track. Same rooms which are not available had gone up to about $150/night -talk about ripping the folks off. . . keyword = "greed" Carol
Mark, I guess I am being too logical and trying to make good sense of out something which makes no sense! You MUST purchase the same number of tickets you purchased on your account in '05 to get your two freebies for '06. Doesn't matter how many on your account, you get two. Our case we purchased 6, get two. Other people who purchased one or two get two. My response to the person on the phone was . . . . . . . . Based on the way the USGP is handled and the extreme over-inflated costs, I will take my money and continue to go the real F1 races in Europe. Carol
This isn't rocket science. The reason they aren't giving you tickets next to each other is because they can't. If you have the same seats every year, and the people on both sides of you have the same seats, who gets booted? You keep the seats you've always had, as does everyone else. The freebie seats go to an area that isn't already spoken for. Over inflated costs? It's cheaper for you to fly to Europe and spend an extra few days than to pay $150 for a room at Indy? I'm not following your logic.
I just booked my hotel room at the Ramada in Fishers, Indiana, about 20 miles from the track. For those of you who have driven in the past, do you power straight through from DFW to Indy, or do you stop along the way? Which route do you take?
I'll be there on Sunday with my 13 year old boy... on Saturday, we're doing a "side-trip" to Wrigley to see the Cubs play the White Sox... game starts at 12:30. Looks to be about a 3 1/2 hour drive to Chicago. We already have tickets to both events. Burning some Marriott Reward points and staying at the Fairfield Inn in Indy. Edit: Just noticed this thread originated last year... I'm talking about 2006. Looking forward to it!
D. Rose, Last year at Italian Car Fest, I was talking to a guy named Joe with a black 360 Modena. We were talking about the USGP and he pointed to a black 512 under the canopy. He said that guy attended the USGP and was pretty mad about the whole thing. Was it you he was talking about? I still havent decided if i will go back or not. From where we were sitting you couldnt see anything with everyone standing up.
Cool, my buddy Kevin will be joining me. Our hotel reservations are for Saturday night and Sunday night, is that the same as yours? Did you get the tickets yet? How much do we owe you? Let me know so I can find a way to meet up and pay you. (I had phone trouble and lost my numbers since the last time we talked. Can you call me or PM me your number? )
