Hi everybody, I'm going to spend a week in Park City starting next weekend with my family and friends. We'll be staying at Park City Silver King Hotel. And we have lift tickets for Alta, Brighton, DearValley, Park City, Powder Mountain, Snowbird, Solitude and the Canyons. Wich one to do first and last? Also where to go for family dining? And where if me and wife can break out from the group for an evening alone? Also we plan on having one day off the slopes. What's not to be missed apart from skiing? TIA to all. Francois
We got a place in Deervalley and been going for 20 plus years. Start with Park City and then head over to Deervalley and then the Canyons. As for the other, they are on the opposite side of Deer Valley and Park City. The problem is its about a 45 min drive to Alta, SnowBird, Solitutde, Powder mountain and Brighton, but they are all in the same area. So its up to you if you want to do the drive. As for Dining, alot of great places in Park City. If you are Seafood lover, go to the Seafood Buffet at Deer Valley. The other ones are Wahso which is good Asian food, Grappa, Adolphs, Golden Hirsch(up by silver lake lodge) and also try the restaurant at the new St. Regis next to Deervalley Snow park lodge. Hope this helps.
Powder Mountain is actually the other direction, near Ogden. They have the best back country locally that I've done. We're getting good snow now, so it should be a pretty good week! My wife and I make regular trips to Main Street for caramel apples, and usually do dinner at the Baja Cantina. I couldn't tell ya about any nice restaurants, but plenty here can.
if you want good food for the family try the Eating Establishment at the top of main street, their Mogul hot sandwich is my all-time favorite, it is simple good food, and they always have some great specials, they serve breakfast lunch and dinner, and I have never been disappointed. Probably ate there 100 times, usually with the kids. Also, in downtown if you want nice is Wahso, it is kind of Asian Fusion, Zoom (owned by Robert Redford, pricey for what you get). The Viking Yurt is also a great experience at night with the combination sleigh ride. At the Canyons, don't miss the traditional Belgium waffles located next to the Red Pine Lodge, it is called Brugges, they are to die for. They also have a ribeye steak sandwich for lunch at the Red Pine lodge which is a good choice. Loco Lizard and the Red Rock Brewery in Kimball junction are also great places to go with the kids. In the same area is Ghidotti's Italian, if you go make sure and get the cheese sampler for 100 year old blue cheese, truly wonderful, not sure how old your kids are, but this is a nice place. Baja Cantina right there at the Park City Ski resort would also be a good quick choice for dining with the family. For you as a couple try Chez Betty, it is close to you, and it is truly superb!
My favorites are Brighton and Park City, but then again they don't allow my kind at Alta and Deer Valley. My wife says that The Grub Steak is really good, especially their bread pudding.
I had this posted in reply to your question on the Silver THread, so I'll cut an paste it here just in case: I'm heading back out tomorrow after spending the last week in Philly. It's been snowing like crazy. That being said, as a local I'd say skip Canyons but I see you already have the tickets. Snowbasin is one of my favorite mountains here after Deer Valley and Alta and has something for everyone, including amazing food (as good as DV) and amazing lodges and facilities. PCMR is also great and you have to ski into town for lunch on the town lift runs. If you do that you should have lunch at High West Distillery or Flying Sumo sushi or apres ski at the No Name Saloon. If Mexican is more to your liking Reyes Adobe is great for authentic mexican food. For a great family evening or for the whole entourage, you should make reservations for Fireside Dining at the Empire Lodge at Deer Valley. This is always a favorite for my 3 daughters, and the food is delicious. Dinner with the wife: Chez Betty in PC. Hands down one of the best restaurants in Utah, and priced comparable to most of the nicer places in town. Other good bets for date night woulf be J&G at the St. Regis in DV or Apex in the Montage at DV, but bring your wallet. Dining at Snowbird, Alta and Solitude a standard ski lodge stuff as there is no real town at those places. Come to Park City for that. Other great places: Buffalo burgers are best at No Name Saloon in PC - leave the kids behind. great atmosphere for apres. Jean Louis - Food is more american than french but excellent nonetheless. Kid friendly and reasonable. Jena Louis is a character worth meeting. He was Robert Redford's chef for years. My kids love his Mac and Cheese. We love the Halibut and Elk Chops. For your day off, you could take the kids tubing at Gorgoza Tubing Park in Jeremy Ranch or bowling at Jupiter Bowl in Newpark. Personally, after that much skiing, I'd book a massage at a spa. Enjoy.
I can vouch for Stackhouse on this. I've caught him and the wife cruising Main Street in search of the elusive Caramel Apples. My oldest daughter agrees that Park City has the best.
For as often as we both go, I'm surprised I haven't run into Stack down there! Of course, he probably avoids me because he knows I'll beg to drive whatever awesome car he's in that day! EDIT: Hope you enjoy your time here, Francois. Keep us posted! If you decide to go further north after your Powder Mountain day, I'd suggest dining in at The Maddox in Brigham City. Great local taste and food!
My family gives me a hard time because every time we'd go to Maddox I would order a grilled cheese. I've since repented of my wayward actions.
