It looks as though we are going to head down to San Antonio this weekend. Our son is marching with the Richland High School band from North Richland Hills at the Bands of America Super Regionals at the Alamodome on Saturday. They are picked to finish pretty high. Last year they finished 3rd at San Antonio and 7th in the US at Indy.

If any of you like marching bands, you need to make it over to the Alamodome on Saturday. The BOA shows are not your regular half-time show. It is a real production. Texas is known for having some of the best show/marching bands in the US and this will be the showcase for them. Last year 3 of the top 10 marching bands in the us were from Texas, Ronald Reagan High School of San Antonio(2nd), L.D. Bell of Hurst/Bedford (3rd) and Richland of NOrth Richland HIlls (7th). They will all be marching again this year.

Check it out. It could be something different to do than the normal stuff.......

We have to go, our son is the featured soloist this year..........on a tuba. Yep, a tuba solo feature............I had never heard one before but speaking from a very biased dads point of view.....he's **** good.

Sounds like fun. In my maritime academy days I was part of the drum corp and loved it. Wish I could make it down . . .

Their band director used to direct the Blue Knights D&B corps and the Blue Devils. Their color guard director just came from directing the Phantom Regiment. If you look any of those up under DCI (Drum Corps International) you will see they are all national championship winners or runners-up in the past. Oh, he also helps with the Cavaliers, this years DCI national champion. www.DCI.org

They put on a real show. We leave tonight in about one hour...........

    My picks:

    1. Flower Mound Marcus H.S.
    2. Ronald Reagan H.S.
    3. L.D. Bell H.S.
    4. Richland H.S.
    5. Westfield H.S.
    6. Winston Churchill H.S.
    7. Haltom City H.S.

There will be about 40 H.S. bands from three or four states represented.

I missed it by a few:

    1. L.D. Bell, Hurst, Texas
    2. The Woodlands H.S. The Woodlands, Tx
    3. Marcus H.S. Flower Mouind, Tx
4 Ronald Reagan H.S. San Antonio, Tx
    5. Haltom H.S. Haltom City Tx.
6 Richland H.S. North Richland Hills, Tx

    8. Winston Churchill, San Antonio
    12. Westfield, Houston, Tx

Loveland Colorado won best in Class 1
    Hidalgo H. S. best in Class 2

The scores these schools posted in San Antonio would have won the national championship last year in Indianapolis. Any of the top three scored high enough to do that. Down to 6th would have finished 2nd.

Talk about the Hwy 183 corridor. Bell, Haltom and Richland are within 7 miles of each other and were in the top 6 of the 41 "best in the region" bands that were represented.

I know most of you are not interested in the least so I will end now...........

It was a real show. Too bad you missed it if you like marching/show band competition.

Sounds like you had a good time.

You came at a perfect time with weather. I would have checked it out, my ex went to Reagan and invited me, but had to work.

Enjoy san antonio for the short time you were here?

We have friends that we had not seen in eight years who met us at Dick's. It was cool seeing them again. We like to go to San Antonio every once in a while just to break the monotony of the Metroplex. I would have never thought I would say the Metroplex could get monotonous but I guess we just take the place we live for granted sometimes.
