Hello, My wife and I are heading to SPA this year for the F1 race and we are trying to book our trip early.. I wanted to see if anyone could give me some advice on where to stay? We are planning on visiting Brussels, Amsterdam, and Antwerp. How far is SPA from Brussels? Any hotel recomendations near the track? Small towns worth visiting in the SPA area? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sonny.....
Spa is not far from Bruxelles, about 60km. I haven't been often to that area, but some towns that are really worth considering are: Maastricht, in the Netherlands (about 20km from Spa), very nice old town with great atmosphere. When I was 10, I visited Bouillon which has a great castle from the 9th century. Godfrey of Bouillon was one of its owners, a famous Crusader. Worth a visit, at least in my memory it is. On the other side of Belgium, a bit out of the way but worth a day visit, is Bruges (Dutch spelling: Brugge). Very, very nice town mostly from the 16th century, lots of canals. When you go to the Grand Prix, I can recommend getting at least Silver, but preferably Gold tickets so you don't sit your back-end down in the mud but on a grandstand (Gold ones are covered). It rains a lot there - it's worth spending the extra money. I spent the 1997 Grand Prix sitting in the mud - it was worth it but wouldn't do it again. Maybe I'm getting old?!? Hope this helps a bit, I'm sure other people will chime in as well. Onno
Sonny, Spa is not at 60 km from brussels but 130 km... There are several possibilities to stay near spa, but it's more than time to book... JazzyO is right, Bouillon is beautifull place to visit, and Bruges also... Sonny, you have a PM
There aren't too many 'good' hotels near the track but I always stayed at the Dorint hotel which is the best you can get there . It's next too a slightly busy road but I've always slept well after a long day racing at Spa.
