    Howdy

New owner of an 1987 Mondial Cab. Ive been addressing issues to make the car "right".

You may recognize it as the car that had a "professional" push button starter installed that burned out the starter. Well, that is fixed now and works great.

    CURRENT ISSUE:
I seem to have a variation of headlight motor problem.

I changed the fuse/relay panel to the GT AUTO PARTS upgrade.

Prior to that the headlight stalk was finicky due to a stalk contact issue but I could make it work.

AFTER the fuse panel change: In positions II (middle) and III (down) with the stalk rotated forward, the low and high beams light up BUT the headlights dont pop up as they should.

SO I assume for the moment that the GT AUTO PARTS upgrade is not at fault (eventually I will swap back the original fuse panel and see if the motor pops up). I am testing relay T in the manual which is supposed to control the headlight motor when the low beams are on.

The picture has the female relay positions labelled A-D. The 12 Volt supply to this particular relay comes from the "E" location

    Findings:
A= constant 12V regardless of position of stalk
B= 12V in all stalk positions WHEN NOT ROTATED FORWARD (lights NOT on)
NO voltage when stalk IS ROTATED FORWARD (lights ARE on)
    C= NO VOLTAGE EVER
D= constant 12V regardless of position of stalk (just like A)

I pulled out each fuse and tried to see if I could make the voltage at A cut out. No fuse interrupts A (or B when it has 12V)

I connected A to B and everything works as it is supposed to (stalk in position II and rotated forward makes lights go on and up)

Not sure if all of the above has something to do with the headlight motors getting 12 v in the up and down positions and have a separate internal relay that gets energized by the relay I am playing with. I have a bare minimum understanding of car electronics.

QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO HAS READ THIS FAR:
do the terminals at this relay seem to be behaving properly (if so then GT AUTO PARTS FUSE PANEL is working correctly)

Is it safe to jump A & B above to create normal operation?

Thanks for any insight and patience. Sorry for the convoluted nature of this post.

OMG I am so sorry to hear this... I've bought a Mondi from that same guy, who used the same mechanic, and I've had to fix quite a few issues.

CHECK YOUR FUEL LINES NOW! My car arrived with a leaking filler pipe, even after that "mechanic" did over $12k in "service" to it. He should be in jail...

PM me your contact info if you'd like to talk... I can give you a list of things to look out for.

That being said, your car looks beautiful! Congrats on the purchase. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine!

Hi I just got through going through a similar problem.I didn't start chasing relays until I was sure the wiring was right. I removed the cover off the relays exposing the contacts. I then
pressed down with my fingers to see if it moved the motor when switch on stalk were in the right position. It the motor movement is correct using your fingers in the contacts the go
look at fuses or wiring. I ended up pulling all my relays and fuses and went through each one
to check for activation or continuity. I found a bad fuse, it was shorted in the terminal block.

    hope it helps.

oh yeah I have a black Cabriolet QV

    thanks for advice

yes, the mechanic , Todd, and previous owner Chris Miller are crooks in my opinion

as far as pushing on relay board with fingers, I would consider this, but the whole board is brand new from GT auto parts, so I doubt that the board itself is bad.

I will keep snooping around this weekend and see what comes up

I was just looking for verification that the voltage findings at the relay terminals was as it should be
