How do you remove the headlight bulbs on a '77 GTB? Just got the car and both lights pop up but don't turn on. I want to remove the bulbs and see if they are getting power. They look pretty old so I may want to replace them anyway.

You've probably done this but do you have the ignition switch to at least "ON" position and moved the lever one click down?
And if your fuses are all good then yes, it's probably the bulbs.

Not sure if they are similar to my 328 but it is an easy process on my car. First turn the headlights on and remove the screws on the painted housing then you can remove the screws that hold the headlight in place. Mine had 3 screws that held it in place and aligned it as well. The headlight should pop out and be easily disconnected. If you are going to be messing around in there I would suggest disconnecting the battery as not to have the headlamp assembly return to its original position and cut off a finger or two. It seems odd that both would go out at the same time. I believe yours our sealed beams as mine were and you cannot just replace the bulbs you would need to replace the whole headlamp.

    Have you checked the fuses?

I replaced my headlamps recently with new housing and H4 bulbs. Dramatic increase in output of light for about $150 bucks.

Wouldn't the motor that pops them up and the light itself be on the same fuse?

There is a relay that is used to lift the headlight pods. It is located, on my 328, near the passenger headlight pod under the bonnet. I believe it is only a fuse for the headlights to work. Check your fuse on the dashboard on the passenger side of the car.

There are actually 4 relays involved. Master lifter, rh lifter, lh lifter, and another independant relay for headlights and parking lights. If you are changing lights, not a bad idea to change relays as well.

Right Fuse block...first four - A and C are right headlight high and lowbeam. B and D and are left high and low.
Left Fuse block...G is lifter bucket motors. None are dependent on the ignition switch.

Got them off but I have decided to wait until Birdmans replacement fuse boxes arrive before I start chasing gremlins.
