How do I disassemble the headlight? We tried to turn the ring counter-clockwise but it's really stiff. Thanks for any help.

Hi Raywong, hope this will help, what I do and may not be the correct way is 1. fashion a thin as you can L shaped piece of metal that will fit between the headlight rim and outer rim,2. insert and twist so the wider part hooks behind rim,3. pull gentle maybe into a couple of places and should come out.slide a piece of paper under the rim or cloth before you start if you have enough clearance to save your paint if you happen to drop something.cheers mate

Thanks Johnno! I still don't fully understand how you pull out the rim. are there some kind of locking mechanism or is it purely fiction?

Raywong - there is a small "detent" at the top of the ring, and a friction clip at the bottom. Simply pull on the ring, mostly from the bottom. Once the bottom breaks loose the ring will tilt up releasing the top. It pulls off without any fasteners retaining it. It may take a good tug. Protect the paint, as mentioned by possum.

    Raywong,
I made some pullers up as described above. However, I could not pull the ring off with reasonable force. Did not have the courage to pull hard or have the knack. I was in fear of damaging paint work, even with masking tape protection.
In the end I cut of (using dremel disk) the the three self tapping screw capture clip heads from inside the wheel arch to release the whole headlight assembly without any damage. I replaced the self tappers with a three M8 bolts and lock nuts attached to the head light assembly at same points. This way the whole assembly can be undone with three M8 nuts and penny washes from inside the wheel arch. Its quick, safe and looks no different.
If interested, I can dig out some more photos.
Attached photo shows the clip on the assembly that holds the chrome rim lip.

I use a coathanger, bend the last half inch about 170 degrees insert it in the bottom and rotate to get a grip on the interior edge and then pull.

Ricambi sells the correct Ferrari coathangers but they are not Classiche certified

To remove the headlight trim ring you must first start by removing the bottom first as there is interference and a very small space between the body work. To get to the headlights you can remove the other parts of the trim ring but always end up with having to deal with that lower clearance, slipping the width of the trim ring betweem the bottom bodywork

From a prior post on how to change head light bulbs
