Unfortunatly the headlight switchon my 85 has decided not to function properly. The lights go up and down. Both head lights will come on. So what's the problem? The switch lever has to be moved to a position below the lock position in order for the lights to come on. Of course as soon as the lever is moved or touched the lights go off. The light housings remain up, but the lights go off. I'm sure it's a switch problem. My question to my fellow Ferrari owners is, is there a cheap fix other than replacing the switch??? Any input will be greatly appreciated. RAT, aka Richard A. Thomas

This can be a deep deep subject, but your symptoms sound like the green or black wires inside the switch end knob may have become unsoldered. You can easily pull the end straight off and check them. Be sure to put a plastic baggie over the end of the knob, lest the spring and ball bearing take orbit into the next galaxcy . Also, turning the knob and lever to the off position helps in orienting the stop slot inside the knob. Read all of the many posts on this.

If, in fact, you do have a problem with the switch and you can't sort it out yourself, F-Chat member Verell is the recognized expert on fixing them. You can send him your entire switch unit and he will refurbish it better than new. I had him repair the switch unit on my former 308 and he did a brilliant job. You can find him by searching in the 308/328 section. And he's a really nice guy as well.

In fact, if you search for old threads, you will find several with lots of pictures showing how to access the switch unit in the steering column and how to disassemble and repair most of the parts.
