Headlights now flashing but......

After months of my headlights not flashing all it took was a few squirts of switch cleaner to get them working. I imagined I've had to go poking around under the steering column but luckily a simple fix this time. The daylight passing lights also work and look so cool in yellow as it's a Euro car!!!

The pull back action on the stalk is harder than feels natural though. Certainly harder than on a modern car. Should it be like that or would some WD40 help or will that be a problem for the electrical contacts? The pullback movement is also a bit squeeky.
