    Hoping to get some information on the do's and don'ts regarding heat shields and heat shield materials.

    I have no knowledge of this subject and welcome the education.

    It seems most shielding is either a direct application via a wrap, a blanket, or the header clamshell. What is confusing to me, is what the objective is? With a header, it appears that the main idea is to keep adjacent components cooler; but, doesn't that mean heat is being contained within the header? That does not seem like a good idea? Might it be better to let the header breath and air escape?

    I have read that the material within the header clamshell breaks down; does that mean it is a good idea (perhaps during engine out) to open these up and re pack?

    What is the best material to use? Reading a good deal about inconel branket, but also have read that this is not "the best?" What are the ideal materials today?

    The exhaust shield is a different animal being suspended above rather than directly applied. Is it better to have air circulating around the heat source?

    This shield does not seem very effective? Would it be better to start from scratch, or perhaps an inconel blanket (or similar) be affixed over the top?

    Finally, I have read posts about using adhesive gold foil on the underside of the air filter boxes. ????

    Can modern technology lower temps in the engine bay?
