We have a 1980 328 where the heatshield has fallen down on the headers/manifold and melted. Ayone have any suggestions? Thanks

    Typo Mike, he probably meant a 1986 328, or a 1978 308.

Probably a 308, as the 328 are insulated jackets on the headers themselves.

don't worry about it although they can burn loose enough to rattle I suppose..

I was single bank firing one night and friends on the highway swore it was dripping out in glowing sparkles....!!!!

Rip them off and inspect for cracks is the safe resolution.......

Jet Hot coat them or replace.....

It was packed with asbestos, which has collapsed.....hard to order that these days...

Summit Racing does have a header wrap tape that would do the same thing......

I think he means 80 308. Sounds like your aluminum wrapping around the headers let go? Its a beotch. I havnt yet had the fortune to remove one of those headers with that BS around them. This last car was missing a lot of it on the rear from a blow through from a broken primary. I thought I could tear it off, pry it away, snip it off. $&%@(*(&(%$ that sucked. Front header is virtually impossible. Mine was missing all the sheet metal and most of the asbestos, some moron put a hose clamp around it to keep it from rattling. If you need to remove the front header, dont screw around trying it any other way, remove the right fuel tank. I tried it the "other way" and I got it out. Trust me, PULL THE FUEL TANK!

Bubba, Russ got himself some Tubi headers. Look really nice.
