In the cars defense, it looks to be a very nice example. Maybe as nice as I have seen in a long while in fact. Its a real doll you must admit.

But heck, the GT4 that the goons on the SPEED channel auction show bought sold for good money too. Maybe this is a trend.

Muscle cars are off the hook $$ these days, so lets hope Ferrari $$ continue's to follow 'eh.

It looks like a fine specimen (only, wasn't the Dino-tag dropped by 1979?) but it's certainly over priced. Over here in the Netherlands they are going for low 20's (which is Euro's).

YES YES YES YES!!!!! I hope this auction is real.

It's about time. The 308 GT4 is VERY underappreciated. It's about time these things started fetching better prices. As I've said before, they handle better than the 308 GTB/s cars, are lighter, and easier to work on. And the sound of those carbs, umm umm umm.

If I may quote the article from Forza published a few years ago "Drive a healthy 308 GT4, and you will probably buy it. It is as simple as that. For years, these little driver's jewels have been one of the Ferrari world's best kept secrets, thanks to their like-it-or-leave-it looks."

    Maybe the secret it out?

Yes Ferrari did rebadge the Dino's in late 1975, when they directed U.S. dealers to rebadge existing stocks of Dino's (series 1 cars) After that, all series 2 cars were badged as Ferrari's at the factory. This was done to improve sales of the car. While it is indeed a very nice example, it is way over priced. Some people just don't have a clue when buying.

From a good independant, $3100 is about right. We're doing the major on Karen's Mondial right now, going to cost about $2000 or so.

Getting back on topic, the 308 GT4's are great cars, especially as drivers. Someone probably went ga-ga at Monterrey this year and hasn't done their homework. I saw a clean brown 308 just go for under $15k, so as always, the car is worth what someone is willing to pay...

Look at the bid history. There are 66 bids on that car, with the history showing multiple bids within a few minutes of each other at $200 increments.

Someone (or maybe two people) is screwing around with this auction. Anyone serious enough to bid $40K for that car would contact the seller direct and make an off e-bay offer after looking at the car personally.

That is a really nice GT4. I too think these cars are very under appreciated. I was very close to buying one last year but unfortunatly I would have had to really streach to get it and thats something I won't do for a car(anycar)..Looking back I think I made the wrong choice. I could have really had a nice car..still kicking myself for that one...

This color combo is EXTREMELY beautiful with a lot of classical cars and its breathtaking with the GT4.

Worth some grand extra - but 40k ?!?

The red interior hurts my eyes. I think some here called it 'whorehouse red' in another thread.

Low seller rating + private auction + very high price = shill bidding. Those bids aren't real.

A shill is a decoy who acts as an enthusiastic customer in order to stimulate the participation of others. Often seen in 3 card monte games.

    Dom,

I remember that buyer's guide issue. It's like vintage '96-97.

My ideal Dino 308 GT/4 would be a Series One euro version, black/black, with 16" QV rims, modern tires, and of course a tubi or likewise exhaust. That would probably be more desirable to me than the average 308 save a nice carbed GTB. I don't understand the appeal of '79-'80 sunroof USA cars.....maybe cosmetically, but I don't think they can perform like a series one, IMHO.

BTW, did you see that nicely hooked up dino gt/4 in a recent Forza? Gotta love that Bertone styling...

I still have my copy of that buyers guide.

Yes, that car from Forza is being done by Caribou Engineering. I've actually seen the car in person at crystal cove. I love what they've done, but I don't like the wheels they put on it.

My car is a red/black 75 car. I have 16" 328 wheels, which look great (IMO), and a Stebro exhause which sounds awesome.
