Been trying to learn to h and t in an 89 911 carrera, and the pedals are not my friend. I have long feet, but I'm beginning to think it's not possible. Anybody out there able? Thanx.

Get yourself a set of aftermarket pedals (www.rennline.com) or something that is wider to help facilitate the heel/toe. Without it, it's almost hopeless. I roll the right foot so that the heel blips the bottom of the gas pedal.

Oh no! Please dont install one of those "wing" pedals...

The 1989 Carrera (and many-many other "vintage" versions) have completely adjustable pedals clusters. Adjust the throttle pedal to suit, adjust the brake pedal to suit... Just please don't adapt one of those Nancy boy wing things.

Its a Porsche, they built the pedals to work with you. Take the floor mat out (and the floorboard behind the pedal pads) and look around. Its easy.

Man... An 1989 is vintage 'eh?.. Groan. I feel old. I thought you were going to say 1973 or something to that nature...

I've adjusted till the cows come home...the little sissy wing things help. It's not how the pedals look, it's how you use them. My name is Nancy.

PS. If you want to look pretty...get a Ferrari. ;)

I always thought that the 911 pedal design was one of the best for the heel and toe, but I have size 11.5 shoes.

BTW, my first 911 was in September 1969. THAT is vintage.

If the pedals were sufficient on the 917/956 race cars, it must good enough for road/track.

I had a track school instructor who very successfully races his '73 911. We discussed the same issue, which he chose to cure by strapping a piece of wood to the gas peddle to even out the heights of the three peddles. Unorthodox, but his positive results suggest that the old school fix for old school racing really works.

But isn't the gas about the equivalent height to the brake when the brake is DEPRESSED? Or, are we talking about blipping the gas with the SIDE of the foot on the top of the pedal, rather than a strictly defined heel & toe?

BTW, when I brake with the ball of the right foot, my heel goes almost all the way down to the bottom of the accelerator - so it works out pretty good for a downshift blip.

For what it is worth, I think the 911 (993 now) arrangement is actually easier than either my Testarossa or C4 Corvette.

exactly! the 911 pedal assembly is the BEST there is in order to heel n toe. DO NOT add those stupid pedal add ons as they ARE NOT needed.

there is an adjustment for the brake pedal under the floor mat and behind the wood floor insert. take out the wood floor insert w/ one fixture and disconnect the gas padal so the wood insert is totally removed. then you have the fine adjustment for the brake pedal. lower the position relative to the gas pedal and you will find heel n toeing perfect!!! 2 10mm wrenched required and about 30 mins of your time.

the 911 is a TRUE drivers car so as i stated, you will find the pedals simply perfect...toe on the brake so modulation is perfect and heel on the gas!!

and no...the way to heal n toe a 911/930 is not to rock your foot to the side...it is to properly use your toe on the brake and heel at the bottom of the gas pedal.

6-4 and size 12 shoes...as tall as i am, there has NEVER been a more roomy sports car to conduct the orchestra in (so to speak).

and i too have plenty of race miles in a 911. these cars are like an old shoe to me.
