    I routinely double clutch on the 1-2 shift cold to ease the load on the synchro - seems to work well. I guess some people get grinding, i just get a high effort cold 2sn gear engagemet without the double clutch.

    If you get it right, it's smoother because the synchros are not required to slow down the gears before they engage. Try it. When you get it right, the lever just falls into place. It makes slightly less of a difference vs. on downshifts because the gears on the input side start slowing down anyway as you put the clutch in.

    I do it in my Porsche GT3 first thing in the morning when it's cold out. It makes a big difference on the 1->2 and 2->3 shifts.
