good to see heidfeld getting a new contract. well deserved. i hope to see him on the podium this year behind a ferrari 1-2. i still think his move on alonso in bahrain is better than alonso's move on him at france. its alot harder when you overtake a car that is quicker(mclaren) than yours(bmw) then when you overtake a car that is slower.
i don't think that'll ever happen. i think Mario wants Nick to give Beemer their 1st win and lead them to greater heights.
That is a possible scenario and something they look at. To me it sounded like Theissen recognized the potential in Vettel for bringing home that one point, but he also saw that his diamond is still a bit rough around the edges and needs more practice (almost accident at the first turn). Since the kid is still so young, they probably "park" him as a test driver for a couple of years.
That rumor does appear to be circulating. Things are not looking good for Scott Speed, that's for sure. Great news about Heidfeld being signed, it was overdue and definitely deserved. I would like to see him bag a win.
+1000 I actually think Speed is doing the better job. Anyways, i'm really happy Nick got the contract extension, it would have been a shame if he didn't.
Its amazing the motivation levels (and speed) that exists the closer one's head gets to the chopping block. Ralf is going to be blinding quick as the season winds down.
wait a minute. After searching I have found that this hasn't been confirmed yet. http://flagworld.auto123.com/en/racing/news/index,view.spy?artid=85526 I knew I should have asked for a source.
Agreed, I think Scott is consistently outperforming Liuzzi and should get to keep his seat as long as he keeps up the good work. Hopefully this is all confirmed and Heidfeld does indeed have a contract extension.
Congrats to him. Hopefully BMW keeps improving the car at the pace they've been doing and they'll get that elusive win sooner or later. Vettel is nice and all, but I would've been furious if they released Nick for him.
I thought that Vettle was already under contract with Red Bull and was loaned to BMW? I thought I remembered reading somewhere when it was reported that he would drive for Speed, that RBR would have to pay a pretty big sum to buy get him out of his testing contract with BMW, but he was already signed with the program. Now that I think about it, I probably had that confused. Anyone else hear this?
I definatly agree with that. There have been so many reports that Speed would be the first of the two to go. But, he's actually done quite well while the car has held up for him. if nothing else, He's definatly consistantly faster than Liuzzi. That guy is right there with Sato IMO.
What's the point? Couldn't he have tested for Redbull last year and this year, then replace Coulthard or something in 08? Why is BMW in the picture? Just because he's German?
I think the way these things work is that teams look for new talent. If they find one, they tie that guy to them contractually for many years regardless of whether they have room for him or not. If they don't have a seat, they can still keep him busy/happy and make some money by lending him out to another team temporarily. Get your cake and eat it.
latest news : A contract has not yet been signed but Nick Heidfeld is very likely to stay at BMW-Sauber beyond 2007, both parties admitted on Tuesday. Team principal Mario Theissen refused to confirm reports that a two-year deal to also cover 2008 and 2009 had been penned in the last few days but he promised that "We will soon talk about a renewal." Heidfeld's manager Werner Heinz, meanwhile, told Deutsche-Presse-Agentur: "He (Theissen) wants it, we want it, now we have to sit down and talk." Theissen told Blickpunkt Sport: "Nick is having his strongest season. He works very well with the engineers. He is a very active part of the team. He is an asset and we will soon talk about the prolongation of his contract." Speculation in Germany is rife that the highly anticipated news will be finally confirmed at the Nurburgring on July 22.
