Heidfeld gets support from BMW

Seems like he is safe.

Team boss Mario Theissen has defended the performances so far in 2008 of BMW Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld.

The experienced German driver has been out-qualified by his team-mate at every event so far this season, and he only outshone Robert Kubica in the Australian Grand Prix because Kubica was shunted out of the race.

Theissen concedes that Heidfeld's results have sparked speculation about his future.

"But I have a very relaxed point of view regarding this issue," the German said, insisting that BMW's current driver line-up is &lsquoequal'.

Theissen pointed out that, one year ago, it was Kubica who was struggling to adapt to life with Bridgestone's new control tyres.

He explained that, in 2008, Heidfeld's smoother driving style than the aggressive Kubica means he is struggling to get heat into the tyres for a fast qualifying lap.

"In the races, however, Nick makes us happy with his spectacular overtaking manoeuvres," Theissen insisted.

"Now we are going to analyse the entire package together with Nick to get to the bottom of the [qualifying] problem," he added.

Good to hear, I rate Heidfeld pretty highly, he deserves to stick around.

 

Another good driver coming out of the Sauber stables, like Raikkonen and .... Massa!

 

I guess you haven't read Peter Sauber's comments about Massa.

I think Heidfeld is a good driver but not a great driver. He is where he is for a reason.

 

Agreed. Nick has lived through some pretty tough times and its nice to see him in a top ride. Id love to see him win at least 1 GP before he calls it a day. Id be happy to see him at Ferrari if Massa left etc. Nick would work with Kimi pretty well. Im sure the silly season will prove suprising to all of us.

 

i like Nick in the BMW, but Alonso would be a more potent combo.

The fact is that no Sauber ever won a GP, but Massa won a few.
Who to blame then?
I think I would blame the uncompetitive car myself.
