I would have to think a modern F-1 car driven with modest anger... would set the all time record? I know in GT4 it does!
An F1 car broke the track record at Laguna Seca last year with a Toyota and Ricardo Zonta, A BMW Sauber with Heidfeld should destroy the track record. It'll be the only race track in Europe that Ferrari doesn't hold the track record at .
You know Sebastian Bourdais just broke Ricardo's record at Laguna? By over 4/10ths with his Newman/Haas Champcar. I'm really curious to see how well Nick and the BMW Sauber perform on the track of all tracks.
I didn't know that actually. I think the F1 car should be pulling low 6 minutes around it, the current record is at about 7 minutes. Then again they probably will not have much fuel in it, so it could possibly go sub 6 minutes.
That's fantastic news! Quick Nick will establish the track record for eternity. Good for him. BTW: Nick already owns the track record for the Goodwood hillclimb. He did that in a F1 McLaren.
Juan Pablo Montoya holds a few of them, including a low 1.11 at Interlagos in Brazil, which he pulled off in a McLaren in 2005.
Check this out...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqFrqLBcCGk If he could do a 6:11 in this car, back then? Then Quick Nick should be able to pull off somthing in the low 5 minute range.
Yeah the bumps will be a big problem for a current F1 car setting a hot lap.. I read that Nick is not going to the ring for a record attempt, but iam sure he will give it a go if he is a allowed.. Here's a great vid of one of the fastest camara-on-board laps.. look how fast the other cars go past !!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo6Zm8y5iBI
I'am not sure if this a joke or not, but there is many tracks that Ferrari dont have the Lap Record...!!!! Fisichella has the lap record at Circuit de Catalunya Barcelona for example.....
I almost don't want him to break the lap record. Imagine a 6:11 in (if memory serves me correct) a group c porsche. That guy must have had balls. He even managed a 6:25 during the race!
Well last year BMW did a simulation of how fast their F1 car (the "F1.06" at that time) could go around the Nurburgring. At that time they had reckoned that if the car was driven in anger, they could manage a laptime of around 5 min 30 sec.
That's pretty cool. I wish Schumacher would climb back into an F1 car and do it himself. It's the most famous Germany track, probably the most famous in the world, and he's the most famous German driver, probably the most famous in the world. It just fits. The town of Nurburg is only 40 miles from his hometown of Kerpen. Oh well, Heidfeld is a German.
Even tho Ferrari holding all the European track records is a joke, last time I checked Brazil isn't in Europe I only wish they would televise the BMW taing shot at the ring, unfortunately the nascar channel probably wouldn't carry it anyways. What do you guys think it would take to get the track up to spec for an actual F1 race, or would it just be completely impossible because of the track condition and location of parts of hte track? I guess F1 safety specs wouldn't allow a race on the ring to ever be possible.
I was reading about this in a May '07 Motorweek today at the coffee shop. They did raise the height for the bumps. Neutral downforce, and hard tires. Nick had only driven it once before in some street car. Here is the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-JQQZV3N8Q
Great video, but I never heard mention of a lap time. He said he did 3 laps and you could see from the copter shots he was not taking the fastest line in favor of finding acceptable road conditions but still interested in his times. Anyone know?
It's a shame really, would have been nice to see if a modern F1 can easily break the lap record or not.
