He's in good company, there are plenty of other folks cheating on their taxes too...it was recently learned that Charlie Rangel (the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee in the House) was dodging taxes (not reporting income) on a home that he had in Jamica. If the person writing the laws doesn't follow them, why would you expect anybody else to.. Only difference is that Charlie will get a slap on the wrist and Helio will end up with a big fine and could spend some time in jail......

Not a fan of the IRS, nor do I believe that the tax system is right, but you gotta obey the laws or expect the consequences. It also makes me sick to see some pol getting off essentinally scott free when other folks are going to jail for the same crime.

I don't have a lot of simpathy for tax cheats, no matter how well heeled or nice they are, and I was a fan of Helio...

Wow, kind of surprised at this but I guess I shouldn't be anymore. Wonder if this will have any effect on his status at Penske.

They will probably lawyer this out of the way (provided he doesn't go too nutbar with it like Wesley Snipes did).

having Roger Penske as a car owner has never been more valuable for Helio than now!

His sister handles his finances and made most of the financial decisions for Helio. Snipes went to jail because he refused to pay taxes. Helio tried to avoid them with numerous offshore accounts and purchases. Not really the same thing. If the Feds can show intent, he is in trouble, but if he thought he was doing something proper that was not, then that is another story. He has been upfront from what he knew, but lied about where the money went to Penske and the IRS on one tax deferred offshore account that technically was legal if had stuck with his original intent. He thought they were the same according to his sister. He ended up paying taxes on half million rather than 5 million as a result.

was his sister involved in the fallout with Emmo a while back? I know that ended up in court (ruling in HCN's favor). If so, maybe time for Helio to hire proper management.

also, any CPA/tax planner types know what the purpose of the Panamanian holding co. was? Panama uses the US dollar as currency...some sort of Panama/Brazil tax treaty makes it easy to avoid taxes?

I don't think he's that naive, that's an easy excuse for him.

    Huh?

That's a story that explains that HCN IS racing with Penske this weekend at Petit and that he has not been remanded or detained in any way. Also, he IS still driving for Penske...

    I found it quite interesting.

Should be interesting to see The Captain's reaction, I'm sure he's not pleased 1.) at his driver's conduct and 2.) that he involved the team in this (albeit unknowingly to the team).

And imo, handcuffs and leg chains is a bit much for the charges.
