Hey, can I brag about my monster Subaru STi too????

Kidding...but similar situation, researching these forums before a 355 purchase. Yes it would be slower than the STi...but speed isn't everything. I've always dreamed of having a Ferrari in my garage and for me the 430 and 360 are still out of reach...so 355 it is.

Guys, it's not like the 355 is actually slow or anything... A couple of you sound like you have to make a speed "sacrifice" in order to buy a 355... C'mon now, 0-60 in about 4.6 seconds is pretty damn quick!!! I think the 355 is one of the most beautifully designed cars to ever leave the factory.. And the engine sound is just amazing!!! Besides no matter what car you buy, Ferrari, Porsche, SUBUARU, there will always be something faster..... But there is only one Ferrari...

This is why I want the 355, it is still respectably quick. To be fair the STi has 410 ft-lbs and all wheel drive, tough to top that from any factory.

So far in my research I want a GTB - love the styling of the hard top. Don't want the F1 tranny, seems to have too many potential expensive issues (I will take the F1 on my 360 in 5 yrs!) As for model years...tough call. I'd lean towards a '97-99 to minimize risk of valve guide issues, but it seems the 5.2 Motronic can increase header problems from higher temps. '95-96 are a bit cheaper though....so tough call. And must be red or yellow...

All said and done the 355s are now 11 years old. Compare like for like, back in the day the ferrari 355 was the best supercar....ever. As Clarkson would say:D. And the Subaru and EVOs were just wankey shoping cars in the shadows of cars like Cosworths. So now Subaru owners harp on about how powerfull there modern ricers are compared to the old classic 355. Tell ya what compare like for like, go compare power with ferraris modern crop of super cars like the F430 and the 599, becourse they are waiting for ya;)

Easy there Chaa, all cars have their merits. I'm on the same page and agree 100% that a $35k '06 STi doesn't stand a chance against a $180k '06 F430. Again merits...0-60 in 4.8s, $35k, can use it all winter with my 2 child seats in back, and good for 100k miles without needing 3 engine rebuilds. But yes, end of the day it's still a Subaru and that's why I'm here learning about Ferraris...a Subaru isn't what I dreamed about having in my garage all my life!

Ok, we have heard the practicality/logical argument more than enough times. It does not apply. When you get the oportunity to drive an f-car you will understand why. It doesn't make sense at first but then again that is why you dreamt of an f-car and not a minivan......

LOL, looks like I arrived after the show. :D

Maybe Widebody and anyone else for that matter can get the impression that we are Ferrari fanatics and not too impressed with discussion of other cars in our threads. Each section thread has its own set of maniacs and supporters. A post like that one about the Z-car will get you killed in the Boxer/TR section.

Widebody, there is nothing like a Ferrari - period. Leave the SOB alone after u buy one. Go mod a Jap car that is easily replaceable after it grenades or it slides into a ditch from all that modded HP. Minor mods to the 355 are fun but costly as stated above. Its mostly done for the sound it produces and the throttle response. The net realizable HP is not worth the cost, but we still do it.

The Ferrari is the complete package. My 996 TT is a rocket, but it lacks the experience/dynamic/soul/engagement that the Ferrari - any Ferrari - does. You either get it or you don't. If you don't then my opinion is not to get a Ferrari since u will just be frustrated with your unmet expectations. Not everyone gets these cars. True, those that don't are soulless beastards doomed to walk the wrealm of automotive mediocraty for eternity.

WARNING: Once u get hooked, you will not care if it puts out 200 HP or 500 HP. It is Ferrari!

Header problems have nothing to do with whether the car has 2.7 or 5.2 Motronic or any percieved difference in ex temp the 2 systems generate.

Early exhaust manifolds are garbage, late manifolds are still garbage but slightly less so. All will eventually need replacement.

No worries Gothspeed I'm still here. Just pokin around this site and others just checking stuff out/finding info. I know you probably expected me to come in defense of my fellow ricer, but look at his first post. Something about bragging about a monster STI with 410ft lbs and all wheel drive. Ok so you can launch hard and I can laugh when your tranny breaks. Out of respect for these F-car owners and being on their site I will go into the 350Z vs. STI vs. EVO argument but even in the STI world, 410ft-lbs of torque doesn't qualify the car as monster. Also, IMO the word monster, used in relation to any car is pretty juvenile, but then again that is also the image (juvenile, boy racer) that is projected by many of those cars(some of them are modded well and others aren't).

Thanks for the comment - I had read elsewhere in the forum that there was a temp diff due to the OBD II emission requirements. So I'll assume regardless they'll get replaced.

Widebody - try keeping this on topic. See the 'kidding' in that post of mine? Your forum name is the first thing people read. Mine clearly states why I'm here...yours is bragging about a body kit.

Yeah, at first we thought widebody had ulterior motives but he seems to be doing ok now :)

As for some of those fast little cars.......well we can start the race at 160mph ;)

"Mine clearly states why I'm here...yours is bragging about a body kit."- Ferrariless.
Your name states that you are without a Ferrari and nothing esle. You come here for info, but only argue the "merit" of your STI against an F355.
As far as my forum name bragging about a body kit...I have the same name on the 350Z forums and brought the same name over here so that I don't have to remember different names. No worries though, when I get my F-car I will change it to
F-carowner or something of that nature.
What is the fastest that you have been able to hit Godspeed? After looking around it looks like you have to have a Challenge chip to eliminate the speed limiter? Not too important, but I do plan on participating in some of the Rallies like this last year's Player's Run in which high speeds are required.
Also it looks like a filter change, Tubi exhaust system, Challenge chip(possibly) and wheels/tires will be all that I will change for quite sometime. I found several different sound clips of the different exhaust systems including some custom exhausts and I have decided that the Tubi sounds the best or atleast for me. A smile has to come to your face everytime you go to your garage and start the car with that fine tuned sound coming from right behind your head. I hope to have a car picked out by spring so that I can enjoy some top down cruising with that kind of smile on my face.

LOL you guys are @ it!! LOL :D :D
Well I had my 993TT to about 185mph ,it would do 200mph easy after the chip, (it let you rev to 7400rpm). The F355 so far only 165mph (ran out of room :( ), top speed on it is around 185mph. I don't know if it has the torque to put it over 190 if it wasn't rev limited

Sounds good!! Here is a vid in the tunnel. Hyper-flow cats, stock everthing else. Watch the LH shift (camera in RH  )! The sound is intoxicating in person!!! ;) :D
