Hi all, My name is Simon and I live in the south of the UK, I have just bought a 1985 QV in Azzurro blue, of which i'm very proud of. within a week of owner her she has broke down and now resides at my place of work. She started up with only a couple of flicks to the key on a very cold morning, ran well taking my boy to school and my Mrs to work, then off to work myself. After about four hours I went to leave, the car turned over ,I could smell fuel but it appeared to have no spark, spent about an hour checking earths and connections, but she would not go. Popped back over the weekend and first turn of the key she fired up like nothing had ever happened. Has anyone had this problem before or are there some common faults to check out first please . I'm not filled with confidence if I take her out for a spin and it breaks down again. Any helps and advise would be greatfuly received. regards Simon
Seems you have a hotstarting problem. I found this very useful and since you have a jetronic as well. You might look into it. K-Jetronic: Troubleshooting Symptoms There is a post of Steve Magnusson in this post, which can be helpfull (for the hot starting problem. Yes it is a topic of non hot) http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/mondial/162517-mondial-non-hot-start-problem.html There are lots of other posts too. Need to say it is tricky to troubleshoot it yourself. I hear there are some very good specialists too in the UK that can quite quickly find the problem. You might ask fellow forum member peterdavid911 (Since Wiltshire is near London ) HTH Tijn
I don't know about a UK version, but on a US version a person will never smell fuel unless there is a leak. You'll want to spend some time tracking this down as well. Welcome and good luck with the car, they are really wonderful vehicles.
European version will smell if the fuel accumulator is broken. It'll just leak out into the open where as the US version redirects the leaking fuel back into the tank. At the time we didn't really care about bringing safety regulation to a higher level I guess
I didn't know if some of the European versions all had the charcoal canister and somehow vented to the atmosphere. Any fuel smell on a FI car is usually a failure and needs to be addressed. I believe the US versions did not have a line from the accumulator. By design the diaphram is atmosphere vented.
I stand corrected my friend! I just checked the drawings and only a 3.2 has a line back to the tank for the US versions. The 3.0 doesn't. True that! Any fuel smell needs to be addressed. I would for sure not driving it when I smell fuel. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi guys. thanks for all your input, looks likes I will be crawling around the car this weekend (providing theres no rain ) as for the fuel issue,it seems to be a little mix up. fuel was smelt from the exhaust's (just to prove it was still coming through ) and not around the engine bay. regards Simon p.s has anyone created an alternative parts list ?
being on that side of the pond go online and check superformance and eurospares.even though i am in the us i have made some purchases from them.hope this helps
strangely all weekend it did not break down, I drove it around for quite some time, then left it for a few hours and it started fine, tried it all over again on the Sunday and things were good again, apart from a coolant leak, maybe this car just needs to be used for a while to help it to shake down some faults (or correct themselves)
