Hi folks, I've been looking & lusting pretty hard at the 458 (hardtop), and unless I can talk myself out of it, I plan to buy one next year. I'm a track instructor for high performance driving events, currently drive a 350Z, and just sold a '95 Toyota MR2 turbo. My main concern was that I thought Ferraris had a reputation for not being reliable enough to be driven regularly, but as far as I can tell, this isn't the case, at least with the 458 Italia. I'll start with a question - Being in central Texas, it looks like I have 3 choices of Ferrari dealerships - Boardwalk in Plano, Ferrari of Houston, or the newer Ferrari of Austin. I'd probably go with Ferrari of Austin unless there's a compelling reason to go to a non-local place (assuming I buy it through a dealership). Thanks for a great forum! Hi Camel, I just saw your post. I don't know if you are still looking for a 458 but thought I would add my $0.02 to your question regarding dealerships. I ordered my 458 Italia from Ferrari of Austin and have nothing but high regards and compliments for the whole team there. If you are still in the market for a 458 I highly recommend you stop by FoAustin and visit with Erik Clover. He's a very knowledgeable, stand-up guy and can answer all your questions. Kelly and Carl in Service know their chops too. I moved into the 458 from my 1991 300 ZX TT. I bought the Z new in northern California and sold it last April after I put the deposit down on the 458. I loved that car. Many great memories of cruising briskly down the Pacific Coast Highway. But, alas, I only have time and garage space for one sports car. Also, FYI, I attend the Leander Car Show with the Ferrari regularly (first Sunday of the month: Leander Car Show). Stop out sometime and we can talk more. They have also started a Cars & Coffee event at the Oasis (second Sunday of the month) that I will probably start going to. Hope this helps.
Thanks Jazztrip. I'd come by the Leander car show tomorrow but I'll be driving at COTA I'll put it on my calendar and come by soon. I'd love to hear about the 458 first-hand.
