Hello fellow Ferrari owners and fans, My name is Dean and I recently joined this online Ferrari community last weekend. I made the "rite of passage" to prancing horse ownership in April 2010 and surely I am hooked for life. Ever since I was a child I had a passion for exotic cars (probably like most kids, especially those members here) and Ferrari was always at the top of the list. The mid 80's brought Ferrari into the mainstream TV and galvanized my love for the iconic Daytona and Testarossa. Now 30 years later, I am an owner and could not even tell you the definition of buyer's remorse! My first foray into Italian sports cars was a 2002 Rosso Mondial, Maserati Cambio Coupe. A beautiful car that was marketed as an "affordable" Ferrari built in the Maranello plant. (Perhaps the modern day Dino). Anyway, I enjoyed that car for many years all the while looking online at used Ferraris. Since then I have purchased a veritable library of books on the cars, the man, the drivers etc, etc, and find it to be a fascinating subject and marque. After much online searching (now one of my favorite hobbies). I found a beautiful 550 Maranello in FOW and made the deal. That weekend was one I will never forget. We drove the Maser down to Virginia and picked up the new 550. FOW had the car front and center of the showroom floor and I must say, as picky as I can be, It far exceeded my expectations. At the same time I met my salesgirl that I had been dealing with on the phone for the last 2 weeks, she fired it up (tubi exhaust) and it was a "where do I sign moment". I am going on (2) years with this car and love every time I get behind the wheel, which unfortunately is sparingly. For some strange reason, it took me almost 2 years to join FCA, and after i finally did, i noticed the F-chat ad in the newsletter. I am a total newbie at chat rooms although I use the internet all day. I wanted to start with this into thread, but will be asking some car questions soon as it seems alot of you within this community have a wealth of excellent information. Further, I would be interested in meeting some local like minded F-fans to run the roads, or do C&C events. Thanks for reading and hopefully we will F-chat soon. Hi Dean - Congrats on your beautiful 550! I too recently purchased my 550 in Sept of 2010. I remember seeing yours for sale and I was very interested in it because of the seats and shields, etc. When I called on it, they said it had sold. You must have bought it very soon after it was advertised, because I was looking at all 550's that hit the Internet almost daily. I've put about 14,000 miles on mine since I bought it. I highly recommend that you drive yours more
Padriver, I did jump on that car. It was between that 550 and Algar's 575 at the time. I'm really glad I pulled the trigger and quickly! It is a fantastic car and Ferrari of Washington was a real pleasure to deal with. I do plan on driving it more often, hopefully this forum will allow me to meet other Ferrari folk and get out to events etc. What did you purchase?
Ferrari has always been a dream luxury car for everybody else. Probably because they are expensive, they show off wealth, speed and beauty. By, the way, I'm Nathan from Florida, USA. Just want to make friends and interact with people with the same interests as mine.
For me, I am not interested in a display of wealth, I view Ferrari much differently. Cars such as Rolls Royce, Bentley and other large, ornate luxury vehicles scream "look at me" I'm wealthy. While it is true Ferrari is a premium marque, commanding a premium price. I believe the lure of the F-car is the story, the engineering, the performance, the beauty, the exclusivity, the passion & ego that Enzo and the Ferrari team had in building these incredible machines, the entire culture behind the Prancing Horse. It is the essence of the marque for me. It is what drives me to do better, be better and live better. In the 2 weeks I have been a member, this forum has been an incredible wealth of interesting information. Nathan, I too hope to meet people who share similar interest and make friends, thanks for your reply.
