After a long long long wait, we are pleased to now offer the Hill Engineering cam belt tensioner bearing, PT550 at Ricambi America. This bearing replaces the Ferrari part 171057 and will fit all 456, 550, 575, and 612 vehicles.

If you've had the pleasure of fitting "genuine Ferrari" (in the post-SKF era) tensioner bearings, these are quite a change. No more wildly overpacked grease, no more loose fitting seals, no more untraceable and unmarked bearings. Our first batch is now in stock at Ricambi America : Hill Engineering PT550 bearing These are priced and sold in pairs, and like all Hill Engineering items at Ricambi America, we record production batch numbers of each item as they are allocated to customer orders for full backwards traceability to their point of manufacturing in England.

Starting immediately, this will be the only cam tensioner bearing we offer for the 456, 550, 575, and 612 vehicles. These will be included, by default, in all appropriate timing belt service kits.

    Happy days!

Daniel- In the past, HE was getting their bearings directly from SKF and inspecting each one. Is the new one noticeably better or did the SKFs go NLA?

The SKF ones are no longer available -- and in fact have been unavailable through Hill for perhaps two years. We (and Hill) had a fairly decent stock of SKF that we worked through during that period, but we've been completely out of the SKF ones now since perhaps Q2 2017. The replacements from Ferrari are, unfortunately, like a lot of their replacement bearings, presented with no clear source of origin and no traceability. They were also notoriously overfilled with grease and had a 'less than secure' seal (putting it gently).

Daniel- Thanks, and the new bearings look very good. HE and you are saving our bacon on bearings for the front cover and the tensioners.

I forgot the exact manufacture, but isn't it NTA Japan (?) who manufactures these for / in-conjunction with Hill?

There are several different ones. NTN, NSK, etc. Hill does the design and specification, the bearing comes from an outside supplier -- and is usually a bespoke/proprietary spec, and the shells, seals, final assembly, etc are in England.
