Hello, I am Joshua Keefer. I am an amature photographer, and I just started college and one of my classes is a fine art photography class. And my subject to cover is Bay Area/Northern California Car Culture.

    Heres a little write up:
The bay area is one of the most diverse places in the country and even in the world. There are many aspect of bay area living that signify and symbolize it and make living here totally different than living any place else. There’s a part of bay area culture that isn’t looked at as much as other things, the car culture. The bay area auto sport and tuning culture is as diverse as its people. From High class high powered Ferraris to fully customized low rider Impalas. The bay area has the best of the best when it comes to cars, trucks, and motorcycles. The car culture in the bay area has been viewed as an alternative culture and being mostly underground. But in recent years, it has been more exposed in media and other medians, but the picture that is painted isn’t necessarily the most unbiased one. I hope to document the true feeling of this culture by covering many regions that make up this culture. Such as, the high speed action of F1, Indy Car and Road racing at Infineon Raceway, fully tuned and customized autos from the European, Japanese and American car markets, Local car meets, Drifting, and Drag Racing.
My goal is to find the best cars the bay area has to offer. All kinds of cars, trucks, and motorbikes, and show appreciation and shed more light on a part of our culture that seems to consistently but in the dark.

So with that said, I am looking for ANY and ALL cars to shoot, for free, no catches, no scams, this is real. I love to take car photos, and I'm relatively good at it. If anyone is interested, or has any questions, please contact me, via email:[email protected] or aol instant messenger: JoshuaKeefer.

I'm eager to hear from you guys! And pass this message on to whoever else you feel would be most instrested! Thank you all for you help!!

    -Joshua Keefer.

Joshua - There are many get-togethers you can attend for shoots. You will find most all of the members pretty cool. Part of your Major should focus on your English, as your write-up needs to be cleaned up a bit. Best of luck with your career! Please post a few pic's when you take them. Lets see the 'feel' you are able to capture for these fine cars.

    Joshua:
Welcome to our little pleasures. Since I'd be a poor subject for photo shots of the Ferrari marque, I'd like to introduce you to a "slightly" different venue.
There is a growing group of car "builders" in the general bay area and if you'd like to see a number of Cobra replica's, you owe it to yourself to go to Livermore at 8:00AM at the Rock House Sports Bar. EVERY Saturday, anyone that has a Cobra, Daytona Coupe, GT40, Ford GT, or even a plain GT350 meet for breakfast there ( assuming no other events such as the Goodguys show is happening, you should get at least 2 dozen cars there.)

Sometimes a Ferrari, Viper, a Hot Rod do show up. It's a bit far for some in SF, but since you're in Union City, it's about a 30 minute ride for you.

This coming weekend we are doing a ride from Alices on top of 84/35, and heading south into Scotts Valley for lunch and then a tour of a race car restoration facility up in Scott's Valley if you're interested; we will be meeting there at about 8:30AM Saturday.

As an alternate, you MUST got to Santana Row (Corner of Stevens Creek Blvd. and Winchester, just off Hwy 880/17 in San Jose,) behind the movie theater parking lot. Every Satruday moring around 10:00AM, you will see a number of exotics that should give you a glipse of the more modern machinery and some vintage as well, and a smattering of hot rods on occasion. If Turbo 6's, Turbo 4's, V10 and V12's are your thing, this ought to "get your motor running".

*EDIT* There is also a "hot rod" gathering in Santa Clara every Wednesday evening starting around 5:00PM at the Mervyn's Plaza on El Camino Real. There you'll see classic hot rods as well as 60's iron. Nearly all are good enough to be Goodguy's contestents; some are "in progress". What I think you'll find as the trend of the older generation having the money to revisit the cars of their youth. Once in awhile you'll see a bunch of GTO guy's hang out, as well as Vette guy's, Mustang guy's, Impala SS crew, and pretty much anything that sported a V8 from 64 - 72.

There is suppose to be a few other "dinner" time get togethers at various places such as in the Milpitas McCarthy Ranch or down at Mel's(?) in South San Jose. I don't know the exact locations to be honest, nor the exact time but I do hear about them and I'm usually invited but dinner time for me is with the family so I don't get out much for those.

PM me if you want more info on the Cobra venue.

Ahh...a new shooter...great! Welcome to Ferrari Chat: Northern California.

I work with other people on this forum on Milk Runs (drives) in the city and county of San Francisco -- we start off with a Milk Run through the city, then we meet up at a restaurant for dinner and great conversations. You are more than welcome to join in on this type of Milk Run.

Other members coordinate Milk Runs outside of SF; however, these Milk Runs are by invitation only and aren't publicly posted -- you will need to be checked out by the coordinators of these Milk Runs because they are extremely cautious as to the people and drivers that join their herd of bulls & horses.

I recommend you send a Private Message to Prancing Horse introducing yourself. Who knows...one day, you might get an invitation to join the pack for a Milk Run, and I promise that you will really dig it.

Check 6 and good luck with school.

    /s/ Alfonso Faustino

THANKS for all the info guys!!
Sorry for the under par write up, it was a last minute thing, I didn't quite have time to read it over, but it seems like you guys got the gist of it.

I'll make it out to some of those meets and meet some guys, and shoot some cars, and hopefully get some people to do future shoots with me. Since a planned out one on one shoot produces higher quality photos.

Hope to meet some of you guys, let me know whose going where and who's who!

If you guys want some samples of my work, I can provide some soon.

    -Josh

You may not even need to do a private shoot, because most of the time the Santana Row meet provides some great photo opertunities and I am usually extremely happy with the results I get. I have yet to go on one of the drives after SR because they happen as a sort of last minute thing, but am sure these would also provide some great opertunities. You should check out some of our great resident photographers:

P.S. A trip to SVAG may be worthwhile, as many times they have a decent car or two outside!

whats up bro. The public meets are great, but you most likely won't be able to get clean or desirable backgrounds, not to mention good light. My advice is to find a great location to shoot a car, figure out the timing for the light,(dusk, fog, night, etc.) then set up something with a single car. The driver should be willing to maneuver the car to get the best light/angle, and will be grateful to have his car shot for free. Just give him free prints, and everyone's happy. I shoot mainly fashion, but shooting my own cars has become a favorite past time.

That is actually my plan at the beginning, I've been shooting cars for a little while, I've shot at events, but there is no comparison with a one on one session that is planned out. Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it! Maybe we can share thoughts in the future.

Joshua: I think you need to get at least a shot of Alcatraz somehow incorporated into the shot. Not sure how it would work out but I could see a Muci in the forground, "the rock" in the background, and a caption: RELEASED

It was inspired by a photo of my brother when her first bought his 65' Mustang:

    Hi Joshua,

if you get to SR before 8:30 a.m. and stand by the "T" across from Pete's coffee you can get some nice shots of arriving cars.
