Hi... name's Brian. I currently own a 2001 Corvette Z06 that is my jack of all trades. I run 4/5 HPDE's a year, auto-x it regurlarly, and drive it to work almost everyday if there's no snow. I have 54,000 miles on it and it's been a blast. I attached some pics.

I will keep the Corvette as a track rat but want to get a F-355 or F-360 spyder eventually as a street toy/cruiser.

I'm 6'4" 235 and am wondering if I will be able to comfortably fit into the above-mentioned Ferraris. Being that the motor is in the rear I'm hoping leg room is abundant. The C5 Corvette has a rear mounted transaxel so it's the first sports car I can very comfortably fit in and drive everyday. So how's the headroom and legroom for tall drivers?

Second, F-355 and up have chain-driven cam timing correct? This eliminates the need for hyper-expensive service trips to swap the timing belts (needing to remove the motor)?

IF I wanted to are the cars "good" enough to drive a bunch and put on 10,000 to 15,000 miles a year? I can't stand to pay for a car and not drive it.

Thanks for any and all help!

    ~Brian

    Hey

You have to sit in one to know for sure. A lot depends on where your height is. Torso/legs.

These cars can be driven on a daily basis.

Test a few that's the only way to know which one is for you.

    Nice Vette

    Welcome to FChat, Brian!

You will find the 360 much roomier than the 355. Go to a dealer and sit in a few cars (or testdrive a few).

Both 360 and 355 have cam belts. The 355 requires engine-out. The 360 engine stay in during service. The F430 has cam chains. If you want to avoid cam belts and don't want the F430, check out vintage Ferraris (pre-Boxer).

These things definitely get better when driven regularly.

I was hoping for that... so many people with Corvettes never drive them and they seem to be the ones with all the issues. I'm guessing Ferraris are much the same... if you regularly drive the car it's will treat you better.

I'm not in the market now... I'm about to turn 25 and getting married this fall. However, my fiance will probably be going to medical scool (advanced practice nurse now) and I always joke her that I can quit my job, become a stay-at-home dad, and she can buy me my Ferrari Spyder =)

I'd like to have one in the next 5 years.

Do any of you do your own work? I do everything on the vette and don't need any exotic tools to service the car. Can this be done on a Ferrari by someone with a little mechanical knowledge and some service manuals, or are the tool costs prohibitive?

You could do some work (oil, filters, etc) on the more recent Ferraris. If it involves electronics, you'd need the dealer's computer (very, very expensive if available) to get things done.

I let my service technician do all the work. Continuity, in professional work and paper trail, is a good thing
