You want modern decent performance you should get a 348, 308s had 0-60 times 7 to 8 seconds, 328s around 6, 348s mid 5s which is respectably quick compared to 95% of the cars out there.

You need to drive a Ferrari or 2 to get a perspective of them, fast twistys on open roads is where they shine, a combination of looks and mechanical sounds and driver feedback make them the most exciting cars I have owned which I have had many muscle cars, old vettes and Porsche 911s.

You could get a great 348 in this range, plus have some left over for an "emergency" fund. Where are you located? PeterS here has a beautiful 348 in the $40s, and he is in CA. There is also a great looking red/red 348 from another board member in South Carolina. You could also get great examples of 308s and 328s at that price. Personally, I think the 348 is hard to beat. You owe it to yourself to drive one of each. Post on your regional board, and you will find plenty of people who will take you for a spin. If you are near Arkansas, give me a call.

JP, that is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I could live with a 6 second 0-60 car. That would feel fast enough. 8 seconds would leave me wanting a little more.

Let me ask you, is the 348 a lot more expensive/difficult to maintain than a 328?

Have you considered a Pantera? (I'm not kidding). Or, perhaps a CAV Ford GT clone? (also not kidding). You are just not going to get the kind of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times out of a Ferrari that you are looking for, particularly at your price range. I am not belittling you, or your priorities.
And, although Porsche doesn't appeal to you, the 911 in various iterations is an altogether amazing car, made by a car company with enormous vision. If you do your own work you could put together an amazing, highly desirable car in your price range that would not only give you the performance you are seeking, but also give you the handling, and a true European sportscar experience that is very hard to find in the more modern cars.
You might decide that a 308 appeals from an aesthetic point of view, and still keep some Detroit muscle for thrills.

PS> a 328 is going to feel slower than a 348 unless you do a number on it. For example, see Wil de Groot's supercharged 308 project in another section. Eg, http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=125146

Yes a 348 is more expensive if you have a mechanic service it because it requires and engine out service to change then belts, 328s you change them by removing the fender liner in the rear. 328s are probably one of the most reliable Ferraris made though more so than a 348.

If you are mechanically inclined you can do it yourself so the maintenance costs will be closer for both just needing parts.

I really enjoyed my old 328, it was my first Ferrari, you should drive both a 348 and 328 to compare, after having big power with my BB and 355 I wouldn't want to go back to a 328 though.

In case you haven't figured it out, it's not you i don't like (i don't know you). It's corvettes i don't like. you have clearly made the point that i am not a car guy. you really shouldn't take my comments seriously. Since i am the only one to crack my spoiler, i should have gotten out right there. should have sold it. that's not a charger, it's a challenger. And it couldn't be farther from a vette. would have expected more from a real car guy. when i discovered the source of my coolent leak, it was up in the air at my mechanics. I figured i'd let him tighten it since they were his tools. i didn't take it to him to save $150. i took it to him because he was about 2 miles away and had a lift. does that explain the logic well enough for you? if you don't like people jumping on you for 1/4 mile questions, don't ask them. remember, you came to an open forum asking for opinions from strangers. don't get upset if you don't like the answers. don't worry about running into me at a corvette event. won't happen. I still recommend the Z06 to you. I have driven it and many ferraris. definitely the z06 for you.

P.S. i also drive the stink out of my ferrari and redlined it several times today. and even though i said it a couple times, i really don't love my ferrari or any other cars. i just like them alot.
