Hello! I originally stuck this in the new member intro section, but thought I would post it here as well, since this is where I'll be hanging out for the most part...

My name is Mike, and I've got my heart set on a Ferrari. I've had it set that way ever since I was a kid and sat in the floor of my room with my 308 GTB Matchbox car.

While the newer models are attractive to me, (e.g. 430, etc.) in my mind it's got to be a 308/328. So, if the time comes, and the stars align correctly, that's what it will be.

I currently drive a 2003 BMW M5, so I have some experience with cars that are a tad more expensive to operate. Maybe not Ferrari expensive, but expensive nonetheless. I do my own work to help offset that expense, and I've read (and subscribed to) a couple of lengthy threads in the 308/328 forum on restoration work that has been done. Very impressive.

I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area. I saw a thread about the upcoming Italian Car Festival in Grapevine and am looking to attend. Hopefully, there will be some 308/328s to see.

I look forward to participating in the forums and maybe one day, I'll be able to change the prefix to [Current Ferrari Owner].

    Cheers!

    Mike

    Welcome!

    The 2003 M5 is a great car...and when the time comes to buy a 3X8 you won't be the only F-chatter with a 3X8 and M5.

When it comes to parts costs, the 3X8s are pretty cheap to own and operate, especially if you're doing your own work. As with any vintage car, certain parts are NLA and therefore expensive (like 328 fog/turn lenses), but on the whole it is no more expensive than a 2002, 450SL, 911 or 928...or modern Accord or WRX. (Looked at parts costs for modern cars lately? Heck, I paid $14 with tax for the oil filter for my wife's Hyundai Genesis sedan from the dealer -- only place to get it.)

Buy a good car and you'll be fine.

Again -- welcome, and don't be afraid to ask for help, suggestions and opinions. We have many here ;).

Thank you. You're exactly right about the cost of parts, of course.

There appears to be an incredible amount of skill and knowledge on this board, based on the threads that I have read so far. I'm learning quite a bit. Not quite ready to tackle a V12 conversion, but I am enjoying reading about all the projects.

Hey Mike!!! Welcome to FChat and the 308 section!!

If I can manage it I may have my 85 308 GTS QV at ICF on the 11th. I am still working out some stuff at work and cant make any promises, but will see what I can do. If not, I am only a couple hours away from you and would be glad to show you my car, take you for a drive or just hang out.

Hi Patrick! Thanks very much for the invite. It would be cool if you had your car at ICF. I looked on their site and it appeared that there were a few 3X8's listed for show.

And sure, we could get together easily enough in any case. I'm fully road-trip and beer compliant.
