Any auto race shop. Norhtstar motorsports in IL. Bell Helmets have a web site if you know your size.

It has to be a snell rated "SA". The SA is for special application, ie auto racing. Car helmets are different in alot of ways than a motorcycle helmet.

One of the sponsors of this site does helmet painting. I don't know if he has ready made, but you might contact him.

SA is for automotive... primarily designates the fireproofing layer which isn't present (or needed) in a motorcycle helmet. Buy an SA2005 helment, and it'll last a nice long time (5 years)

I had mine painted by Mike Charness (www.helmet-painting.com). I wanted something simple, but Mike can do some incredible designs. Call him. A++

The thread just mentioned can probably be summarized as follows :

Do not buy a helmet mail order to ensure it fits your head - as above it must be Snell - once you have a helmet that fits then worry about paint

If head clearance is a worry you could try with the roof off (TS ?) or you may find on track a slightly more reclined but closer to the wheel position works better anyway and this would lower your head

PS turn your caps lock off please

I was told real and safe but who knows
The price is good for a shumi/F style
I have tried to email Mike(our sponsor) twice and no response
He does beautiful work but I am looking to buy one done already, if I buy up here in Canada, ship it, pay duty again and pay the paint job, it will run me quite a bit higher
This is why the ebay caught my attention

    oh well

Really? Sorry about that, but for some reason it didn't come through and I never got them. I do have one helmet (SA2000) already painted if it's your size. You can see it at FerrariAds http://www.ferrarichat.com/ferrariads/showproduct.php?product=554&sort=1&cat=500&page=1

I'd be glad to customize one if you can't get what you want already done up. Be very careful about eBay "replica" helmets... they're usually only motorcycle rated and not "SA", and as you know, M- or DOT- rated helmets are not accepted at most track events.

Also, regarding Canada shipments, I've been told that because a paintjob is technically repair/refurbishment, there's no duty in either direction if properly labeled as such. And if you buy your helmet in the US, you can have it drop shipped to me.

    Mike -

That looks fantastic!! I've been thinking about "upgrades". If I choose to have mine repainted, is it easier to start from scratch with a new brain-bucket, or can you make additions to my existing one?

It depends on what you want done. I can do add-ons, but keep in mind that unless the entire helmet is re-clearcoated (not a problem, but does take more time and materials), there will be a raised edge around the new work, kind of like adding a sticker. You won't be able to tell by looking, but you'd be able to feel it if you run your fingers over it.

I have a 355 and am 6'2'' and while I fit ok with out a helmet, I found with a helmet I didnot fit into the car, even with the seat reclined.
A typical helmet will add at least 2'' to your height. Further reclining your seat to the max can have you sliding under the seat belts in a frontal accident.....not a good idea (I use 3" 5 point belts for the track).

My solution , with the stock seats, was to remove the lower cushion and replace the foam with memory foam. The foam is cut to the same dimensions at the stock foam however compresses sufficiently enough to allow me aproximately 1/2" head clearence with the helmet on.

Note: I think I used 6 Lb memory foam

An added bonus, is that when I drove for over 2 hours with the new seat cushion, I was still comfortable. Nothing worse than being in discomfort when your trying to concentrate on driving.
