My car has been through a list of checks and improvements to fix this problem and nothing has worked yet. Waiting to see if replacing the Potentiometer(s) will fix it. The car did throw a Potentiometer fault code. This is what has been done so far to address the issue:
    1. PIS adjustment
    2. Clutch replaced
    3. F1 hydraulic pump checked, pressure is great
    4. F1 pump actuator checked, in great working order
    5. Faulty wire connections fixed.
If the Potentiometer replacement does not fix it, then what? I can't afford to dish out any more money on this car. Has anyone else had this problem?

There was a thread a while back where someone had a similar problem. They ended up adjusting the shift nose. As I recall, it was kind of trial and error but when they got it adjusted correctly things worked well. Not saying it is the problem but that could cause a difficult shift.

Heck if I know for sure. As I remember from reading the thread: The shifting is performed by a hydraulic ram that move longitudinally and rotationally. The end of it is connected to the shifter linkage into the transaxle. If that connection is not in good alignment you won't hit the gears exactly as expected and it will have a hard time shifting. Does it have another name, probably. Am I an expert, VERY far from.

This sounds like a problem that will not be straight forward to diagnose. Do you have an experienced mechanic working on the car?

Seems like there are 1001 possible explanations and no definite cure. This really sucks because I bought the car in May of 2010. I dumped megabucks into major 3 year service and clutch shortly after that. Doesn't Ferrari know about this problem and have a technician educated on how to fix it? My car will not go into reverse from neutral when hot. Then the problem got worse and sometimes it won't go into reverse at all, and sometimes won't even go into reverse from first. Kind of embarrassing to have to push your 360 out of a parking space. I hate to get rid of it but I might have to. This is getting ridiculous and may have been a really expensive mistake.

Have you tried going into reverse from 1st gear instead of neutral?

My 07 430 does not have any shifting above 2nd gear. I had replaced clutch. Car in shop now for what I think will be new potentiometer. Will update with results.

I had a 360 with that problem. Kept trying but to no avail. I eventually accepted that reverse was just a suggestion. Sold it. (Sorry Rob!)

We have a serious problem here. I am extremely disappointed. This has been a problem since I bought the car in May of 2010. The first time I noticed it was after getting it home from the dealer (two hour drive). I have owned the car less than a year. It has been in the shop a total of about two of those months. This is messed up big time. Big car payment, this seemingly incurable problem, and being unable to enjoy the vehicle as it should be. And what does this do to the car's resale value if the problem can't be fixed? Crap!

HAVE THEY TRIED TO CENTER THE ACTUATOR? ALSO, I KNOW YOU SAID THEY SET THE PIS...BUT THAT CAN BE A TRICKY THING SOMETIMES...ADJUSTING THE PIS TOO LOW CAN CAUSE THE CLUTCH TO DRAG CAUSING ROTATION OF TRANS AND ENGINE RPM TO BE THE SAME THUS KEEPING IT FROM SHIFTING INTO REVERSE MORESO AFTER BEING AT OPERATING TEMP....WORST CASE INTERNAL TRANS ISSUE...CAN IT BE PUT INTO REVERSE MANUALLY AFTER REMOVING THE ACTUATOR???

Mine did the same thing. It was the reverse switch itself. Didn't see that they repaced it in your list. I was told it was a common problem.

Hey guys, I have a 2001 360 spyder. It is sitting in the garage right now. I want to drive it but I CANNOT because the gear won't change at all. I tried 1st or R but nothing happens. Any suggestions on what to do? Appreciate your comments. Thanks.

I had a friend that had the same problem. It turned out to be the F1 pump that failed. The bigger PITA was that he parked it in gear and it was hell to tow the car out of the garage.

Eventually they had to bring a Ferrari tech to his work garage to get him out!

That's why when I'm at home, I park it in neutral and throw some wheel chocks underneath them.

When you try to switch the car on does it beep and the gearbox warning light come on? But engine wont start? If yes turn the master battery switch off in the front luggage compartment, leave overnight, reconnect, leave 2 mins and try to start up as normal, this can solve the problem.

Sorry, this is bad advice. Lots on here suggest this approach but in reality you clear all codes so it is much harder to trace the problem.

So many potential issues. Door switch thinks door is open, lit to engine compartment, LOTS of F1 problems, PIS setting, etc. Seek professional help.

If it is a once off spurious issue, worth a shot.

If it reoccurs I completely agree seek help, something requires attention.

If it is significant the error should occur almost immediately again.
