    Basically what the title says:
I am about to enter neogiations with Mercedes-Benz Germany, in regards to a 1956 gullwing one of my clients owns, the car is in 100% orignal condition(paint, tires etc,.)19000miles, my clients father was the original owner, He has ALL documentation including the original bill of sale etc., they are interested in this car for their muesum,
the question i will be faced with is they'll try and low-ball me by saying the car is in original un-restored condition and they'll have to restore it,so the car is only worth so much, now the exact same car sold recentley at barret-jackson basically the exact same condition except with 56000miles for $572,000 u.s dollars, bottom line is I want more for this car, my client deserves more after getting screwed by everyone else,
Now what i want to know is why is an "original" car better then a restored car?
any help to better my argument would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

That seems to be a very good price for the car. Why do you think it should be more?

IMO, It would depend on condition

Non restored 100% original mint cond > Restored mint cond. > Non restored 100% original ave. condition.

What do you mean he deserves more after being screwed by everyone else?

because, it's and ALL aluminium car(extremley rare)belly pans, radio option, probably about 20 of these cars were made, and what i mean is he sold his 97 porsche turbo S for $87000 with 4600 km's on it, when in all reality this car should have been bought for $150,000-$160,000, he sold his 91 testarossa for $83000 in 94 when they were going for something like $400,000, bottom line is he trusted someone who totally screwed him, and after talking to him for months now imo he just doesn't deserve it, a cardiac surgeon, who volunteers at the mayo clinic deserves more then getting screwed.
BTW it's %100 mint original condition.

Quote: Why is an "original" car better than a restored car?

Because in most cases, a restored car isn't really restored. That word is tossed around pretty loosely. Once a car has been restored, to whatever level, there is one less example in truly original condition. And they were "restoring" Gullwings more than 40 years ago. How many Gullwings are left that are REALLY in original condition? I would guess that you could count them on one hand.

Agree, and that one hand could have suffered a radial arm saw accident where it lost 2 or 3 fingers.

I think you are getting a little ahead of your self. It seems you have done what you could in finding the other 1/2 mill $ auction. I would say just sit back and wait for their bid. If it is less than say $500,000 US ask them politely why and come back to us with their answer.

Another idea would be to "lease" them the car. My family does that with a lot of old medical stuff that is in a museum. We retain ownership of the items, the museum displays them. They of course pay for all shipping, insurance, ect., and for that car maybe a monthly rent check would not be a bad idea!

I'd have thought an original unrestored car would be wirth more to an official museum than a restored one - at the end of the day, which would real enthusiasts of the Mercedes marque prefer to see, something that looks pristine (and therefore IMHO is not likely to be 100% genuine) or something that is the real deal - a totally original car?

Use this argument if you like, although, if it were my car, I think I'd like the idea of DrStrangelove's lease arrangement - would you prefer to be the guy who sold what is probably the only 100% original Gullwing in existence, or the guy who allows a museum to use it? I know which sounds more appealing to me (although obviously I don't know the full story on your client's circumstances). Oh, and should my numbers finally come good on the lottery this weekend, tell your client I'll give him $100,000 more than the museum offers ;-)

PS: also loving the good Dr's profile pic - bellissima!
