    Hi guys.
I'm new to the Ferrari chat as this is my 1st Ferrari ! It took some time but I finally got one! A 1992 348ts Rosso Corsa on black and all original paint!
Here is my problem: The passenger side door won't open at all! Both the inside and outside door handles don't work. They don't have any "tension" at all compared to the driver side door.
Is there any solution to this? Is there any way to get to the mechanisms inside the door without the door being able to open?
I've been able to take the kids for a drive by putting them though the window (dukes of hazzard style), but the wife (or anyone else), still hasn't gone for a ride.

    Please help!
    Thanks!

Hi, Mark. Welcome to Ferrari Chat, and congratulations on your new toy.

You can open the doors on a 348 from the outside when the window is down, using a long slotted screwdriver. Look down inside the door, at the rear, in the area of the door latch, towards the outer side of the door. If you look carefully, you can see where the cable from the inner door release handle runs straight upward into the latch mechanism. If that cable is attached correctly on each end (chances are that it isn't), then when you pull UP on the inner handle, the cable pulls DOWN on the lever on the latch. By reaching inside with the screwdriver, you can push straight downward on the same lever, and the door will pop right open. I just did it on my own 348 to be sure.

Once you get the door open, you will need to remove the panels to find out why it isn't opening correctly. Chances are that the linkage has just come unattached.

The lever on the latch is exactly 6 1/2" down inside the door.

I tried with the screw driver and it's not working....
I can see the wire and when I move the inside door handle, I see it move slightly. It seems like it's still attached but when I push down with the screw driver, the door still won't open...
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Is the door locked??My passenger door lock stuck on my 355 and it was simply a matter of inserting the key in the passenger door lock and easing it back and forth many times until it came unstuck.

The key only goes in about half way on the passenger door.....from lack of usage I guess.

What happens when you operate the power door lock/unlock buttons on the console? Does the lock knob on the door go up and down? From your description, it certainly does sound like your passenger door is locked. No wonder it won't open.

Edit: Looking inside my door again with my flex probe flashlight, I can see the part of the latch mechanism that is moved up and down by the electrical servo and by the key linkage, in order to block the latch so it won't open. It appears to move "up" to unlock. It looks to me like you could make a hook tool with a coat hanger that would lift it up to unlock the door. But it's hard to tell since I don't know what is wrong on your car. It's fairly common for the little linkage piece that connects the lock tumbler to the linkage to snap. That would explain why you can't unlock the door with the key, but you still should be able to unlock it with the electrical button or the manual pushbutton.

I'll try to figure it out..... The doors do lock and unlock. I might just have to bring it to Ferrari Quebec or a local Ferrari specialist.
    Thanks.

Or from a broken off key by a prior owner (happens).

If you can see the broken off part, there is a fairly risky way to get the key out with minimal effort (high risk, low effort), which goes along the lines of putting a dab of JB Weld on a blank Ilco key ($2 at your local hardware store) that you've snapped off the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the key such that you have a flat edge to "weld" to the broken-off key inside.

Insert that new half-key with a dab of JB Weld on the end and leave it pressed in for 30 minutes (suggest the quick-dry JB Weld version). Now slowly pull both key halves out (they should be welded together somewhat).

The bummer is that if any JB Weld gets inside your lock tumblers...no more lock. Toss it away.

I would take the lock out and push the broke piece from the other direction

I have a simialar issue, this one is on the drivers side, I can still open the door, but I have to use a lot of force to PULL the door out from the outside...try this and let me know.. I know its not a good fix, just temporary. just bring the car to a service center, I'm sure its not an expensive fix... thanks
