I'm hoping someone out there can shed some light on this. The passenger door stop on my '95 F355GTS is acting strange. When you open and close the door, the stop actuator (in the center of the top hinge) makes some unpleasant noises and binds. The entire assembly in the center of the hinge is moving back and forth as you open and close the door. On the driver's side, that assembly does not move. In looking at the parts book diagram, it does not appear that this assembly is fastened to the body or the hinge. Do you suppose my "tie rod for door stop" (part 7 on the diagram) has failed? I also don't see how to access this area to inspect it? It looks as if I'd have to remove the instrument panel and passenger airbag to get to this area. I tried removing the right front wheel and inner fender panel, but no access there. Any info would be much appreciated.

Jack Russell Racing had a similar fix:
    Door "Popping" Noise

    1. Open the door
    2. Disconnect the wiring buckle from the door jamb (just to allow room to work)
    3. Using a punch, pound the exisiting pin out, from the bottom up. It takes a little time, but just be sure not to hit any paintwork!
    4. Once the pin is basically out, use a needle nose pliers to remove it entirely. My old pin looked nothing like the new one: old pin was probably a single wrap of steel and fell apart as I needle-nosed it out. New pin was several wraps of steel, and much more substantial.
    5. From the top, insert new pin.
    6. Using a punch tool and a carefully swung hammer, drive the new pin into the hinge.

    No more popping sound!

$1.80 (replacement pin #8 in diagram below) from Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro. Part number 65859300, and it's fixed. -Daniel Pass

Bajeezus you're fast!! I was doing the same thing. :)

BUT, the F355 assembly is a little different. See F355 picture with screw, not rolled steel in position #8

Oh, that's interesting. Would the screw from the F355 be an upgrade to the 348?

As in, if we have to fix this problem, use the F355's screw rather than the 348's replacement pin??

So perhaps all that he needs to do is to tighten up the screw #8 and nut #43?

Possibly. Part #7 is identical on the F355 and later 348's, (assy 15172->)

And to make it sweeter, the early 348 latch (62055400) has also been superseded to the new one too. In other words, we all share this:

Now, 348 and 355 brothers join hands and sing with me:

It's a small world, after all,
It's a small world, after all,
    It's a small small world...
