I was driving the 355 a week ago with the top down and the windows up. I went to lower the drivers window and nothing happened. Press the switch and it maybe moves about 1/8" and then nothing. Its always worked with no trouble in the past.

Is there a "usual suspect" in dealing with window motor problems? Something that fails without warning?

I'm hoping for some possible solutions before I start tearing the door apart.

    Thanks

Did it pop a fuse? If it's anything like my 348 the door loom connector is a trouble spot. If the 355 has the same design, pop it off and clean the contacts.

Try putting the roof back up and latching closed then try the windows.

Some logic in window opening could have been lost and requires resetting or there may be a problem with the micro switch on the window rail.

    Somethings I might check.

    Window switch & connections OK?

Pull the plug that goes form the door to the frame on the inside door jamb and make sure it is is clean & corrosion free.

There is a wire harness under the dash that passes by the OBD port. It goes to a black ECU box buried up in the dash. That is the controller for many things including the power windows. Make sure all is clean & connected.

My problem was in that black box connection. I could reach up there and hit the harness with my foot & make the drivers window come back online <blush> I just fixed that for good this winter. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I managed to get the roof closed. Normally the window goes down some during the top operation but I was able to work it to get it to close. Window still does not go down with the top closed. I have to start checking the connections. The window does move sightly when I try the switch so it appears that it is getting some signal but just not doing much.

ll the visible connections look good. What are the next thoughts? Micro switch? Control unit? Motor? Should I assume that I need to remove the door panel to access all of these? What's the easiest way to access the switch inside the door?

Man. I just had my door panel off. Should have done a picture story.

    Let's see if I remember:

Remove the push lock button (twists off)

Remove the two screws on the lower door panel at the back of the door
Remove the one screw on the bottom of the lower panel
Remove the two screws under the leather cover on the front of the door
Bump the lower panel forward and it should release and come off

Remove the two screws holding the upper metal triangle plate at the top front of the door
    Remove the triangle plate
Remove the hex head screw under the top of the door handle
Remove the two bolts at the bottom of the door pull handle

Move the door pull handle out & back and lift up gently to remove

Undo the small screw inside the door lift handle
Pull the handle back off the splined shaft being careful not to lose any screws or spacers

I have a wide door panel removal tool for thees steps...a wide putty knife would work:

Pop the front part of the door panel off the door frame.
Work to the top of the door front side
Pop across the bottom and up the back side
Lift the door panel away from the frame going up and back.
Remember, the door switches are still attached.

Disconnect the switch harnesses. Red to the rear. Black to the front.

Walk the panel to your work bench.

I think that was all of it...doing it from memory here at the office.

Sounds far worse than it actually is to do.
