Hi guys, in these days the gear indicator was flashing when shifting from 3th to 4th, but everything ok. Yesterday I was driving on highway. In acceleration, in 3th at 8000 rpm, I've upshift in 4th and.........gearbox warning light on, intermittent beep, the car has returned in 3th at 8000 rpm. I've put into Neutral and, luckily, parked the car safely on the side of the street. The engine was running well and smooth in Neutral but I couldn't put in no gear in. I've switched the car off and at the restart in Neutral ........ a continuous beep again, all check lights on but, turning the key, I couldn't fire the engine anymore. Now the car is in a deposit and tomorrow will be tracked to the Ferrari center in Rome. Some idea? Perhaps clunch?
Sounds like you lost pressure, is the F1 hydraulic fluid full? Do you hear the F1 pump pressurizing the system when you turn the key to 'on', but not to start? If the pump isn't spinning then check the relay behind the driver seat...and hope it's not a pump failure. IF it's a failed pump there are lower cost solutions than a new 355 pump; either a rebuild or install a 360 pump (needs some custom work for it to fit). Let us know how it turns out and what your Ferrari shop finds. Good luck!
What timing! Again NOT saying it is a pump failure...I'll let the pros diagnose that. But if it is...just today got an email from Daniel on a new lower cost pump for the 360. And there are threads about fitting a 360 pump into a 355... So with a little ingenuity, now a pump failure is more like $800 + a bit extra for modifications to fit a 355, which is way less than the oft quoted $10k+ pricing by the 3 pedal crowd! http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=261690
I think these things could be rebuilt for less than that even. When I replaced the diode pack in my alternator, I took it to a local electrical rebuild shop for bench-testing before re-install, and was flabbergasted at the stuff they had in there. That the alt was from a Ferrari didn't phase them at all, they told me pretty much anything electrical could be rebuilt much cheaper than it could be replaced, Ferrari or not (and the guy had no idea the price tags the yellow boxes come with!). Hydraulic parts also are very rebuildable. May be what Ricambi is doing, on an exchange basis. But if you don't want to modify a 360 pump to make it fit your 355, might try rebuilding your old pump. Just a thought. Good luck with your problem, please let us other 355F1 owners know how this turns out. John
Hi guys, thanks for your replies. I've heard the ferrari dealer by phone (he hasn't seen the car yet) and he has told me that 99% is the cluntch. I'll let you know......with crossing fingers. Bye
