I just received my new switches today. I installed the pass side first and all was good, it worked. So I started working on the driver side and said to myself “this is easy"! I attached the door light and it came on. That was good, right?? I walked over to get my screw driver and the pass door light was on, but the door was closed. I opened and closed the door it ever shut off! Then I hooked up both switches attached them on the pillar. The light went off the driver side with the door opened. I closed the door the light came on. I hope I didn't lose anyone; this is crazy stuff at 12:30pm!! I also had the map light switch in the back position and the light stayed on until turn the keys to off position. It's getting late, any help tomorrow I would appreciate it. Thank you.

It's unclear that there is a problem or question. Either door opens, both door-ajar lights come on. All is good on the western front.

    Ok, here are my questions:

    1) The door light should not stay on when the doors are closed? I noticed this condition when I hooked up the door light on the driver side. If I unplug the door light on the driver side, the pass side works properly. When both door lights are hooked up, they are both on and stay on.

    2) After installation of the driver side switches, the driver door light shuts off. I closed the door and driver side light went on. On the same note the pass side light is still on when the door is closed. What is the cause for this condition? I'm also not getting buzz sound when I remove the key from the ignition.

    3) I'm assuming the map light will work properly once my door switch and lights are corrected.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Check for an insulating fibre washer behind the switch....the ground comes back from the light socket thru a wire, if the switch is grounding, it's not correct??

    This is all from memory...

Lamp sockets have two terminals. Passenger and drivers lamp socket terminals are wired in parallel. Let's call those terminals 1 and 2. Black and red wires go from one door to the other door to parallel the socket terminals. Terminal 1 on both sockets will connect to the the fuse. Terminal 2 will connect to BOTH door jam switches. A door jam switch connects to ground only when either door is open, lighting both lamps.

For the situation you describe to occur, only one condition can cause it to happen:
When you install the drivers lamp, it's terminal 2 of the lamp socket is coming in contact with the door panel, grounding it and consequently grounding the passenger lamp socket. Since the ground comes from the errant socket and not from any door ajar switches, both lights will stay on as long as the battery holds out.

Comprehende? Examine the drivers door lamp socket carefully and its attendant black wire to it for any inadvertent ground contact.
