I'm dangerously close to buying my first Ferrari...a Challenge Stradale. Two questions: The car will be out of warranty soon. How important is extending the warranty? Does anyone know the cost? I am buying from an authorized dealer (Boardwalk). How important is an independant inspection? Since I live in Kansas City (no dealer), any issues might get complicated. Thanks! I've been enjoying f-chat for the past few weeks.
I can't help ya' on the warranty question, but I think you'll find that most people's answer to the second (bolded) question will be this: "VERY." Welcome to FChat, and best of luck in your search! Aaron
I understand why you would need a good mechanical inspection for a car from a non-authorized dealer....especially for a car out of warranty. but, in my case is it eeally necessary? I will be going down personally to finalize the deal and check out the car.
An independent inspection, commonly referred to as a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) is the MOST important step you must undertake when you find a Ferrari that you like, authorized dealer or not, warranty or not. There are abused cars out there that have been washed and detailed and look impeccable to you and me, but will truly spoil your Ferrari experience. Also, keep in mind that when fixing an under-warranty car, there will always be "items that are not covered" that will cost you dearly (read $ thousands). Just get a PPI done, and be prepared to address the issues you find wrong with the car (either by deducting the cost of fixing them from the price of the car, accepting them as problems and resigning yourself to live with them or walking away from the deal). It will be the best few hundred dollars you ever spend.
thanks for the advice. anyone know a reputable mechanic in texas that could go to plano to inspect this car? also....any info about warranty coverage?
Talk to Boardwalk regarding the price on the warranty. Since they are an authorized dealer they should be able to provide you with a factory backed warranty. I think cost varies depending upon which model you decide to purchase. On Ferrari's website it says special cars are excluding and they use the Enzo and F50 as an example. Not sure if a Challenge Stradale would fall into that category as well. Here is a link that describes the different warranty options that are avaible to you. http://www.ferraripower.com/POWER/index.asp?content=0
What color CS? Miller Motorcars just put one up for sale within the last few days which is absolutly AMAZING! It has pretty much every option and is a color you don't see on Challenge Stradale's to often. http://ferrari.millermotorcars.com/preowned/index.cfm?sFuse=ALT&iVehID=581&CFID=7003968&CFTOKEN=44534587
I've been looking at TDF Stradales. I'm open to interiors, but there are two out there now with the alcantra that are fairly appealling. I also really like the titanium ones. I've seen one with a black leather/red stitching interior...wicked. thanks for the link...I'll call them and fish a little. tfazio: thanks for the link. didn't know that site was out there. tfazio
Perfect choice in the Stradale. Dealers apart from Florida can sell Ferrari Certified Pre-owned cars they are checked inspected guaranteed and have a 12 months warranty included in the price. Insist the car is sold this way. You can also upgrade the warranty to a Power Cube which is bumper to bumper. To buy the warranty cash you are looking for Power to be about 3000 and Power cube 6000, worth every cent if you have ever had to pay for a repair.
HEre is the CR from Tonkins http://www.tonkin.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewinventory.details&CarID=0127ff81-e84d-a2ab-ffe9-5207332b5f12&StartRow=2&Make=Ferrari&Model=360&Type=Used&Year=2004&
