    Hello all,

I would like to access the carburetors in my 78' 308 without removing the rear deck.

I can easily remove the top of the air cleaner but am not sure how to procede.

I know this may seem like "an easy one" to you very experienced owners, but I'm just getting started with this.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Remove the 4-nuts on each carb. inlet trumpet to totally remove the air cleaner. that should give you plenty of room to work.

To get the air cleaner itself out, I have to ask my wife to hold the rear deck, then lower it while I'm underneath and wiggle out the air cleaner. It won't come out otherwise b/c the lip on the front part of hte rear deck gets in the way. It has to be almost flat for enough clearance. Mine's a '77 though and the later cars had shocks to hold them open.

ummmm i dont understand your question. i did all of my work with the rear lid on. i used a piece of wood to raise it higher than normal as my prop rods on 2 of the 3 cars were broken.

i removed my carbs and my intake manifolds with the rear bonnet in place. this was on the brown 308GTS and the red 77 GTB.

if i can help you, please let me know. michael
