    Friends,

I have 2 308's and never use the AC, as even when fully operational, it never cooled the cabin, unless it was so cool it was not needed. Removing the compressor will help me perform the services much more easily. I finally decided to remove the unit on the 74 Euro 308 GT4. It is running R-134 and I want to seal off the compressor and the AC lines in the car to keep moisture, dirt etc from the systems. Of course I will keep all the parts for the next owner.

My question is there any available connectors or caps for the AC lines and compressor available?

    Thanks,

    Rob

The best way to have a future functioning system is to have a currently functional one. I’d keep it running. It’s not much more work to keep it functional.

    Billy Bob,

You have helped me immensely over the years, and I appreciate your advice and took it to heart, but I think I am set on this. My 75 AC has not been running in 20 years. I spent 10 years servicing it, I even took a class and got a license to buy R-12, but the compressor seal leak out about once a year or two. Back then you would just get them recharged but now it is a PITA. I had it blowing out the vents in the 30's but would never cool the cabin, replaced the fans, ductwork etc. I got an A in the class! I have to remove it every time I do a service and it makes no sense even when it was running, I would not use it. The average temp here is 75-80 F.

My euro car is R-134 which is even less efficient, it was the nut and bolt restoration by Al in Florida, it had the compressor rebuilt, new everything on the AC, hoses, dryer etc, and it worked perfectly but would not cool the cabin either, and after about 2 years the gas leaked. I talked to many GT4 guys over the years and it was just a poorly designed system. I would have bought a non AC car if I could have. I am an old man now and do all my work everything seems somewhat easy but removing and installing the compressor for no reason seems crazy. I always did it to look original but I am at the point of just leaving it off. That is why I want to professionally cap off the compressor and the lines. I will attach the upper and lower mounts to the compressor add all the bits and pack it in a box with instructions for the next owner. Plus I will save about 40 lbs. I am hoping someone know of some kind of reverse flared cap for the unit and something similar for the hoses.

I get it. Let’s say you put everything in a box with pics before removal of all the stuff for next owner. The brand new compressor sits in a box not moving for 10 years with a trace of oil from when you took it out. In 10 yrs that compressor going to need a rebuild anyway. Machines don’t sit well. Receiver dryer will always need to be new too. But since I’m diy I have put them in oven 250f for an hour and that drives off water and refreshes them…never do that for paying customer. Rest of lines can just sit in box maybe some tape over ends to keep dirt out. You don’t need to seal for storage.
