HELP, car won't into gear

    Hi guys, I was drivin normally down the street, been driving for about 40 min, hit a red light and next thing u know car wont go into gear, I was stuck with people and their smart remarks, if I was driving a 1989 Cherokee I'm sure they would have helped me, so choked! I got the car to the corner and tried everything from trying reverse, to shutting the car down from the bonnet to puttin in sport mode and Nuthin, doesn't go into gear, any help? Waitin for a tow truck right now

    By the way it's a 01 spider 360 with A F1, new clutch about 1000 miles ago

    push the brake down "very" hard.
    than try to change the gear.


    mine did that one time

    also, if that does not work
    Do you have the tow hook that is in the front of the car (with the tool kit).
    Make sure you use it to load the car

    I pushed it really hard but still no luck , so choked but thank u for the suggestion, I can hear the pump but no luck on gear changing

    one other thing I did was to roll the car about a foot. I don't know if that did it, but maybe something may have came out of alignment

    This issue has come up on the forums before. Usually has turned out to be a bad PIS adjustment. Might be as simple as bringing it back to the shop for that after breaking in the clutch.

    Try a power reset via the battery switch.

    Check for brake lights coming on when you press the brake pedal. If not then you may have a poor adjustment on the switch which will cause no gear change from stopped. If the car is rolling, you might be able to select a gear. I forget if the TCU will alow this after a full stop.

    One more idea: If the rear deck lid is open it won't go into gear. That switch is known to be iffy. I would open the engine lid and close it again.

    I don't know if that is the problem but if you are rolling it will allow a select, even after a full stop, but there is a minimum speed. I can't tell you what it is but it isn't very much, probably 2 or 3 MPH. I know this because I have selected N while waiting for the metering lights on the cloverleaf. I take my foot off the brake and roll, I can select a gear.

    Thank u guys, the back lid is closed still no gear, I will check the brake lights when I get home, I can hear the F1 pump which is a good thing, how else can I test if its the lid or some other sensor like that?

    I checked and the brake lights r not working, so where is the adjustment have to b done or what has to b replaced? Thank u once again

    I'm havin a really bad night, I went to check and looks like the switch is bad but next thing u know the tranny light comes on and now I can't hear the F1 pump, all I touched was the switch. A code of P1569 came up but even when I erased it the tranny light come back on, I main power switched it off for the night. Gould the F1 pump stopped workin cause of that brake switch?

    I don't know if the switch is special or if there is resistance when open which could cause the TCU to know if it was disconnected. If the switch is two wire, you could short them together to see if the brake lights come on. Then see if it will go into gear.

    Don't know about the code. I hate troubleshooting multiple problems but maybe they are related.

    And THIS is why power cycle reset is a bad idea. When you did that you cleared all stored codes so they have very little information to go on when diagnosing the problem. Power cycle reset is WAY over used even though it is one of the first things people suggest. It can cause you a world of problems and more expense down the line.

    I'm going to change the switch, can u buy it at Lordco or do u have to buy it online, I really would like to get it today so I can get my car into gear and into my garage, don't like it parked outside.

    A power cycle will not clear OBD2 codes. They must be cleared by the reader. It will reset the dash lamps by removing power. OBD1 codes are cleared by a power off. Not sure about codes only readable by the SD2 and SD3 but I doubt they are cleared without the tool? He already pulled the OBD2 codes available via a reader.

    When you have nothing else that seems to work, what else do average owner have to try. I'm pretty handy and am not going to tow my car to the dealer before I have exhausted all of my options. If it does clear a code and get the car back on the road, your are back on the road and make arrangements for service at your convenience instead of immediately.

    The problem is.. the F1 system has so much that is below the radar that is designed to be serviced with the Sd2. It's not friendly to DIY diagnosis beyond what has been done. You can trace the wiring schematic, perhaps there's a crossed path for current and a short. Many of the circuits appear to be shared. Maybe it's the brake switch... I presume fuse is OK. With a CEL it's imparting the system is connoting a fault. Knowing what it sees and is preventing it for shifting from you is a very very good start.

    I agree do all you can before you bring it in... but it's not as friendly as my 3 pedal.

    And I vowed I would let that slip in... ;)

    If the brake lights are not working, nor will your gears. It's either a fuse (likely) or the switch on the brake pedal. Checking with an Sd2 will not show a fault in this case, as the gearbox control unit simply thinks you haven't put your foot on the brake.
