I am having trouble deciding on my headliner on my 458 Italia (I hate the standard headliner). So far, my car will be Rosso Corsa with Nero interior/ carpets, with rosso special stitching. The seats are carbon fiber, with rosso center stripe and red stitched cavallino. The seat belts will be red, also.

So far, I am thinking of red leather headliner, which is what I put in for my order. I am thinking will that be too much? Other options I am considering are nero diamond with red stitching, or plain nero alacantara. Thanks for your help.

Congrats for your overall specs, it´ll look great for sure! In my taste if you go for the red headliner it will be too much red on the car (outside+inside). Red diamond stitching may look out of place if you do not have it on your seats and look a little bit noisy. I´ll go for plain nero alcantara, it is both sporty and elegant. Cheers!

You will find that you will hardly ever bother to look up above your head. So this issue is really a non-issue. I wouldn't spend money on this, but to each his own.

I would stick with leather over alacantra as it smells better. Why not go with a plain nero headliner in leather? It will give more "pop" to the rest of the red in your car without competing against it.

I have a California with beige interior and a beige leather headliner. I worried it would be too much, it is not, and adds to the leather smell. It was slightly distracting the first 20 miles but that is way gone now with 12,500 miles.

I also do not like the standard headliner as it looks a bit generic to me. So, get the same as the rest of the interior if you care about things like this.

If you don't care, stick with standard.

A lot of people do not understand that alcantara is not a natural material but synthetic.

I had a beige interior on my 458 coupe. Put in beige leather headliner. To be honest, kind of plain. But, I liked it as everything matched and looked "finished." That would be my first choice for you. The owner of Ferrari of Atlanta had a beige interior and did beige alcantara headliner. It too was nice. As stated above you virtually never look up! For my spider I am going beige race seats (carbon backed like yours, of course) but opted for beige alcantara headliner. Multiple reasons not relevant to your coupe. But, if you want a little pop without it being over done, you could do black alcantara or black leather with black diamond stitch. That way it doesn't fight seats and you did "something" special or different if that is your goal. Red stitching on seats/interior should not be minimized with red headliner or red stitching on headliner IMO. Hope this just confuses you more!

Guys, thanks for your replies! I am thinking red headliner is a mistake, I think black alacantara would be a nice contrast with the A pillar / upper upholstery in leather.

Your interior sounds great, similar to mine but I didnt go for red belts which I regret. I went with a nero alcantara headliner and its great. you have a lot of black leather in there so the contrast material is a winner imo.

KenTo it would help if u could post a pic of your inside . Not sure if you have seen my new 458 spyder. I went with the leather tan to match the rest of the interior. I did the smaller more detailed changes to the inside to make it pop. I am totally satisfied wity my choice. Surprisingly a lot of people do look up and comment. Now with the top going up and down it gets constant viewing. I did red stitching, piping, seat inserts and seat belts. Of all of them the red seats belts was the best. It looks absolutely fantastic. Tje headline is actually quite late in area so be careful with your choice.
As for smell didn't notice much but everyone likes the new car smell when they get in it.

Think the standard headliner is a disgrace at this price. I have black leather with charcoal alcantara accents on seats and doors and so chose to match that on the roof lining. In your case I would go Nero alcantara. Looked at the leather and do not like at all, indeed I find leather a strange choice for the roof lining in any car, whilst alcantara, cashmere etc seem far more appropriate.

Ken, If you had nero alcantera inserts in your seats, then I would put nero alcantera on the roof. But it sounds like your seats are 100% leather and your "A" pillars are leather, so I would do the roof liner in nero leather. Alternatively, I would do the entire upper section (roof and pillars) in nero alcantera, but oddly enough, that seems less exotic as many German cars are done that way. Few other cars have a leather roof liner.

You are right, perhaps the black leather, as it goes with the rest of the car. The only reason I was thinking Alacantara was that the headliner seemed to be framed, and I thought maybe Alacantara would be a nice contrast, subtle, but not standing out as much as red. You are right about the Alacantara A pillars and headliner on German cars. I had it both on my E60 M5 and now on my CLS 63, it is fairly common. Leather would be more unique.

The red was initially chosen by my sales associate. She speced out a really nice Maserati Granturismo S for me in the past, so I that is why I went by that suggestion, but the more I think about it, the more I think it would be out of place. Thanks for all of your suggestions.

My 2 cents: you want Nero Alcantara as a headliner, as its matte textured surface will reflect less light and be less of a distraction while driving. In low light, it will "disappear" as a formless void, giving you an impression of spaciousness. When the car is parked, you want those admiring the car to focus on the nice seats, dash and carpets, not the roof, so it's better for that, too. There is plenty of leather in the seats and elsewhere to smell nice without putting it on the roof, too. Finally, if you change your mind and get a spider, the roof folds into the engine bay (well, sort of) and gets expose to heat. For that, Alcantara probably holds up better than leather, but that's more of a guess.

Alcantara roof lining is not an option on the Spiders....it has to be leather.

Thats what I was told when I spec'd mine. The factory cancelled the initial alcantara spec and said it had to be leather..........hmmmmm.

    YES YES YES!
Rossa leather headliner. It will be a beautiful accent and a reasonably priced option.
My spec was for rossa leather. I got nero alcantara in error. The nero alcantara is ok, but just not distinctive.
A rossa leather headliner will add an additional dimension to the interior. I have a friend who had a 430 with a rossa
interior and rossa leather headliner and it looked fantastic.
Nix the diamond stitching. That's too much, IMHO.

Yeah. It is the same price as leather. That's weird. People ask if the alcantara in my car is suede and I just say yeah. They are so disappointed if I say "no, its synthetic." Why would I want to ruin their day!!
