Help...computer locks up when I run Norton Antivirus

    Every time I try to run my Norton Antivirus scan the computer locks up or else it crashes and restarts. Any idea what is wrong? Any ideas how to fix the problem?

    Honest to goodness best first step? Remove EVERYTHING from Norton from the machine (including all references to Norton products in the registry!). That alone will save you hours of grief over the life of the computer.

    remove norton its using too much resources.

    Get a crash when you use Norton? In my experience, it's working just fine. :)

    Get rid of it!

    If it's the latest version of Norton, simply uninstalling/removing it may not be the end-all be-all.
    I dickered with it on a friend's machine, I uninstalled it, we rebooted, then Norton 'phoned home' and tried to reinstall itself.

    I had to dig it out of the registry so it wouldn't do that.
