I am reaching the final negotiation with a dealer for this car: F50, 1996 with 280km with all original documents etc. The car is basically brand new. The price is around US$520,000. Please tell me if this is a fair price IYO. I realize the price in the US is higher than the rest of the world so our European and Asian Fchatters, please comment.

I am also looking at a 1997 F50 with 7500km for about 6% cheaper. Which one will you take???

    Thanks

Basically brandnew cars that have been sitting for 8 years will need extensive work, especially concerning rubber, hoses etc, not to mention oil sludge that has probably ingrained itself into the engine. I would personally opt for a car that has been regularly driven somewhat. If you're not going to drive it, but store it waiting for an investment increase, go with the new car but be prepared to hold it for several decades.

If the one that has been sitting has been properly maintained, then it sounds attractive. But, as has been stated, cars sitting will have tons of stuff that needs to be replaced. YOu don't want to be the one that has to replace them.
These prices are very cheap for the U.S. Are you in Europe?

Thks for the reply. Please advise if the garage queen is well-stored, will there still be a lot of problems? Secondly, why is F50 so much more expensive than the rest of the world. I live in HK and the car is located in Europe. Thks for your help.

They did not make an F50 in 1997. At least that is what the FNA web site states.

Although well in proportion to the value of this car, part prices and maintenance prices on the F50 are substantial to say the least. I know of a UK owner who paid something like £18,000 for a routine service (mileage was also 18,000 miles) on an F50 - the point being there was nothing really wrong with the car.

The garage queen needs to be in demonstrably excellent *driving* condition to avert a ~ £50,000 rebuild bill.
P.S. The quality of the storage in itself is irrelavent. What matters is how the $$$$$$$$ engine and drivetrain cope with being revved to 8500rpm the first time you drive it.

this is obviously a very limited market so its hard to say where these cars trade but I think f-50 prices will continue to come down, don't get me wrong I love the car but with the enzo all the rage and most preferring the f40- the f50 is kind of lost in between - lol just saying that. If it were my money I would try to knock a few bucks off the lower mileage one and plan on putting 50k in service and upgrades.

After further discussion with my dealer and a few people in the business, I have decided to go for the super low milage one. The biggest concern people have about higher-liage F50 is most of the milage was obtained through tough track use, which might result in expensive engine and brake wear. I might end up paying more for repairs than the premium I have to pay. Secondly, the rubber components need to be replaced anyway regardless of usage as the rate of deterioration is both a function of usage and time. For a 7-8 year old car, they need to be replaced no matter what.

I hope I make the right decision as this purchase will mean no more new car for me for a long long long while.

Now that I decdie which one to buy, I need your help to compile a check list of all the original documentation and accessories that come with the car from the factory. I need to sign the contract later today, please help.

Since I dont know the dealer/broker you are working with, my only advice is to fully make sure you dont purchase the car stolen from Algar Motors in PA USA. The price sounds suspiciously low for a garage queen IMHO. The Algar car had an asking price of 750K and basically delivery miles - though it probably has a few more now.

Do you know the VIN of the car? I can see if I have some history in my DB.

I think $520k is really a good deal as I think the market is around $600k and above.

Make sure that the car had a complete history, service and no accident history prior to purchase.

Post some photos when you get it, Shelbee

Inspite of being called a tank #1 sure looks like cell bladder foam to me. No?
Price for "Tank"? (1,2 + gaskets)
