The news coverage of the problems caused by the hurricane Katrina caught me unprepared as I did not expect to see that amount of damage and death and it is going to take many months for people to get back any semblance of their life as it was before the hurricane, if they ever do.

I wonder if the Ferrari community worldwide can help our affected Ferrari colleagues and their families in any way.

Possibly Rob Lay could come up with an idea of how many there are of us and approximate donations possible.

Then how many it would need to be distributed to and whether it was worthwhile.

Involve Ferrari distributors worldwide and Ferrari itself and set up facilities so that anyone visiting them could also donate?

    Count me in.

    So what do you think?

    all the best Tony

Why not try to help everyone and not just the F-car people that were affected by the hurricane?

With all of the horrible things that have happened to people in the area from Katrina you want to take up a collection to help Ferrari owners who are at the highest end of the income/net worth spectrum!! You are nuts.

c'mon. I would like to help the poorest first. Today on TV I saw those who stayed inside New Orleans and pictures from Biloxi.
I'm sure there are rather not many Ferrari owners among them.
Same with the Tsunami 8 month ago. I have to admit, that I didn't think too much about Ferrari owners, when I have donated some Euros back then.

    Best Regards from Germany

I think it's pretty much handled at this point really.

Tens of thousands of rescue workers are rushing to the scene, if not already there.....

I know the pics are horrific but this was just a typical CATAGORY 5 HURRICANE! Or typhoon, if you will. You are correct that the "Ferrari people" are the most likely the ones with the common sense to "run like Hell"!

We have a Roll Call down in Regional Section and having this site active for that has been a godsend! Thanks!

Mayor Ray Nagin actually IS a Ferrari person, as he was in attendance at last year's French Quarter Classic. I met him and firmly shook his hand. He's the one calling the shots, at this point. He's just moved all City Government to Baton Rouge!

Police and National Guard have locked down the perimeter, and you could not enter to help if you wanted to.........

God bless them all, for an idea of what has occurred here read up on Galveston, Texas' 1900 Storm. It's bad.

But it wil get better. I know your thoughts and prayers and good wishes are appreciated. I speak on behalf of the New Orleans Fchatters, from whom I have received telephone calls.....

Here's food for thought - our local Mercedes Club had a rally last February and money was donated to one of the tsunami relief funds on behalf of the club. Similar thing several years ago with the wildfires in Colorado, our horse club made a generous donation to one of the Colorado Horse Rescue organizations for needed feed and other supplies. It only makes sense that clubs sponsoring events could donate proceeds to funds to help the Katrina victims. Just my .02 on the situation. Some of my co-workers have family stationed in LA and another with family in MS and they've all pretty much lost everything except what they took when they evacuated.

I think we should start a donation through this website and when we get a predetermined amount or time period then send it to the people in need on behalf of the Ferrari community. That way people will see that we are not stuck up like the image suggests.

Let's be honest & informed here. The poor got jacked by the hurricane as a whole. People without cars got stranded or worse. Educated, funded & able people got the f*** out of harms way!

Many of those who endured the storm CHOSE to stay behind, probably to loot! Ferraris and Yugos are all capable of being driven out of town by their owners!

So now many of these storm victims have brand new big-screen TVs on their rooftops!

I will probably get bashed to hell for this, but everytime i want to send some aid , i see some s.o.b. walking down the street with a 19in tv on his head. or that they were shooting at the helicopters so they could get the food on board. I know not all are bad, but alot of those poeple having been sucking off of the tit of the usa their whole life. Ask yourself , do you think they would help you the slightest bit? This i know is cold and harsh, but its what goes through my head everytime i have the urge to donate. in the end i probably will .but there are alot of other needy people and things I do donate to , rather than the disaster du jour that is most on everyones mind and the media.

Simply not true. Way before the hurricane hit it had been estimated that 100,000 citezens of New Orleans literally had no way to leave the city.

The people causing the problems are only a small percentage of the entire group. The ones causing the problems should be shot, in my opinion, but just keep in mind that the media will focus the most on the problem people, distorting the reality of it all.
