My wife and I are going to Monza in September. Does anyone have good ways to get from downtown to the track? I assume train maybe. If so can I reserve tickets now? I assume it would be really crowded that morning getting to the track. Any help would be great, we've never been there. Thanks, nugget

Yes you can buy tickets in advance, and I would suggest that you do this ASAP for the best seats. The official web site:

Here's a suggestion for train tickets - we've found in many locations in the past that a "pass" (normally 2, 3 or more days) is the most economical way to go. It's quite possible that this train service to Monza may have reserved seating (we found this is the case with the TGV trains we are utilizing for LeMans in a couple weeks). Most often the "passes" must be purchased in the US prior to departure. We've had great success using Rail Europe - here's the url link to the Italy service.

We attended Monza a few years ago with general admission tickets. It was a last minute decision. Bad mistake! You have to get there at the crack of dawn to stake out a good viewing area. Buy grandstand seating, even though its not cheap. We just drove to the track in the morning and parked in one of the many lots that are set up.

If you use the train, remember to vaildate your tickets BEFORE you get on the train at one of the yellow boxes on the platform.

I wish I could remember the name of a great wine bar in Monza that offered incredible panini with hand cut prosciutto...

the train leaves from Garabaldi station in Milan... on race weekend they have tons of service... then take the shuttle bus from the station ... its a long walk...

or you can chopper in from Villa d'Este... or points north ... not as expensive as it sounds...I think you can go to chopperchater.com and search for prices... about $150 per person ... not bad considering you are out and back to lake como in 25 - 30 min... but beware of heavy fog in the morning.. they will not fly if its heavy ... and that is common at that time of the year in Italy.

I went to Monza in 03 and it was awesome. The only complaint is don't take the free train back to Milan from Monza after the race. In the morning there's about 5-6 trains to Monza for the race and then there is 2 or 3 to get back, my mom almost got trampled by all the idiots pushing there way to get onto the train. It almost ruined the weekend. When I go back I'm going to stay as close to the track as possible and avoid the free train altogether.

The seats I had where at the first chicane and they were amazing.

I almost forgot the best part was at the end when you can jump the fence and run on the race track. There was broken Manardi stuck in the chicane run off area. I tore my brand new blue jeans jumping over the fence and now have a great memento.

I went last year also, definitely buy seats in a stand. I got seats directly opposite the ferrari pits.

We stayed in Varena on Lake Como and just drove and parked at the circuit. There is lots of information on the monza website.

I bought my tickets though the monza website only about 4 weeks before the race and paid face value. Don't pay a premium through the agencies for Monza.

I really appreciate all of the help and advice. My wife and I have seats in the stand. We have never been so didn't have a clue on how to get up there. It looks like we will take the train. We are sitting in the stands across from the Ferrari pits. From what we have read here it is all about the experience of it being a race so supported by Ferrari. Thanks again for the help. It sounds like we'll see a lot of you there too. Nugget

Its amazing to watch the tifosi with general admission tickets bring wood, hammers, and nails and construct their own grandstands!

The easiest way to go from Milan downtown ( close to the Stazione Centrale, main train station ) to Monza track in the Parco Reale is the bus. There are regular buses from Milan Stazione Centrale to the bus stop at walking distance of the track main entrance. Be prepared to walk as the track is inside a parc so that whatever location you choice to you have to walk there.
