My friend has just left for France in his Mondial, he managed to reach Kent railway station ready to place the car on the train. The weather turned bad and they were caught up in a bad rain storm.
Thats when all hell broke loose with the car, the engine has lost power (by the sounds of it only running on 4 cylinders) then the rev counter went backwards. the lights have also started to play up.

Now the question? Is there a specific place the water will run into the electrics on an H reg Mondial that will cause all these problems. I can then guide him to that place so he can start drying that area out, hopefully curing all the problems at one hit.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Mark...

Mark: I don't know if this will help, but I had a similar problem with my Testarossa. Engine bay got wet and the car ran bad. It didn't seem to want to dry out even after a week . I took a leaf blower and shot air all around the engine and the problem instantly went away. Good Luck.....Charlie

    The coils! The coils!
Dry and re-seat all of the connectors!
You may have to replace a coil if damaged.

also, look into the digiplexes (where are they on a mondial?), and dry out the flywheel sensors (3) if you can.

    Mark,
One time after getting caught in a horrible rain storm my 308 started running very bad similar to your friends situation. After the initial freakout I started checking all the electical connections and finally determend that water got down into the spark plug wells thus causing a few of the plug extenders to crack and blow out the side. After replacing the broken plug extenders all was fine. I hope it's gonna be that easy for your friend. Best of luck....CJ

Thanks everybody, he went to Kent High performance at 8am and they changed a coil, then had to do a re-tune and a dry out. Last time he rang all was ok and in France :0)
I have no idea yet how much it cost "but who cares" at least they are on the way now.

    Thanks again for your replys.

Also where is the digiplex located on the 84 308 GTS QV?
Is it on the left rear of the trunk?
I also see a vacuum line going from the plenum to the what I think a digiplex, what is that vac hose for?

I believe they are in the right lower firewall ahead of the wheel well

OBTW - before I switched to a single distributor ignition, I had to buy THREE coil packs in three years. They are not cheap, and are quite weather sensitive. I was using my car every day, so totally unacceptable; now it always starts and runs, even in the rain.

Agreed, start with plug wells, then check digiplexes, then coils. I bet it is the plug wells. Be sure and get new rubber caps/covers. As they age, they no longer make a tight seal.

Mine are in the left rear in the well behind the wheel, under a carpeted cover.
This is for an 84 euro QV.

I do not know what the vac line is for, and I wish I did....
Probably used for slight advance. When I unplug mine, the rpm's rise because of the added air into the plenum.
